Is it possible to clone Phallus hadriani

I found some dune stinkhorn eggs near my house and was wondering how i should go about cloning them? Can i soak these in stetile water then bleach water and take a clone from the center?

I'm not sure which part of the fruit can be cloned and what type of media to use. Also, how long should i soak them in sterile water and bleach?

Update:

I got five receptaculum pieces to MEA. Seems clean so far (about 48hrs since transfer) but it hasn't visibly jumped to the agar yet. I will keep everyone updated.



Update 12-1-15

They look like they are growing onto the agar! It is amazingly slow but I only had one colony of bacteria pop up on 1/5 plates. If things keep doing well I will post pics when you can actually see a difference. Then I will rewrite everything as a TEK for those of you interested in growing phallus shaped objects :lol:

clone the stem off the flesh in the stembutt. Give it a shot!

So clone the receptaculum?

I'll cut open the egg, remove the gelatinous layer with an iso soaked rag, tear from the peridium though the gleba and receptaculum and then clone the inside like a normally formed stem to PDA or MEA.

It seems easy but i'm not sure if i can get it growing clean on agar. I've never cloned a receptaculum and don't know if it will grow :confused:

I'm so used to agarics!

Thanks for the link cron! I got delayed from cloning due to the holidays and family but I'm still going give it a shot tomorrow. If a clone doesn't take I'm going hunt down another patch and try a spore swab or another clone either from the receptaculum or stipe. The damn stipe is so fibrous I'm not sure it could be sufficiently cleaned before cloning but I will try it anyways.

I wonder why nobody ever tries to grow stinkhorns? Sure they can smell but the morphological changes it goes through to sporulate are amazing. Couple the transformation with how unique and pretty they are and I am in love :lol:

I'm really interested in stinkhorns, did you end up cloning anymore stinkhorns? I have a huge patch of Ravenel's stinkhorn in my backyard, waiting on it to fruit in the spring.

Mycelium smells right. Probably Phallus ravenelli, from some agar plates streaked with gleba. Only one plate showed any growth that didn't look to be mold or bacteria.

Gleba in grown stinkhorns are filled with bacteria and mold spores because the smell attracts flies which spread all kinds of shit on it. I would recommend Breaking an egg in half and taking flesh from the middle white part and put it on the agar in the future.

I'm thinking the same thing now. I'm not confident  have a clean culture, likely contams from the start in the gleba, but there's a faint stank of stink so  moved it to sterilized debri that collects below the birdfeeder.
