Horizon.  That's what I usually buy too.

I myself drink organic soymilk too, Mr. Tryptastic.  Actually I don't drink it much but I do put it on my cereal and oatmeal.

It costs more to be an organic farmer....they have a smaller income, and no government subsidies from what I know (which, granted, isn't much!). What is the organic scam you are talking about? I eat 99% organic and am interested in this!

I'm in agriculture... most organic farmers have smaller parcels of land and the equipment needed to work it is also smaller, the way Farm Subs work is, the more you have the more you get, in order to even qualify for a grant you have to meet certain requirements, usualy it involves having certain types of equipment and usualy equipment thats far more than is needed. this is why the large 'corporate' farms are given a great deal more than the smaller farmers. Also know that most farms, organic or not are corporate farms, this is done to protect the assets.

As for the organic scam, a great deal of the foods are organicly grown using geneticly modified seed, this is done to to increase pest and disease resistance they qualify as organic simply because of the way they are grown, a great deal of it is also grown on these large corporate farms.

Testing for organic certification is expensive and it's dont annualy, the government decides who can and cannot test and also sets a maximum of what can be charged, everyone charges the maximum just as is done with insurance. there is a lot more complexity and detail to it but htis is just a basic explanation

Market dependant pricing, this is why you pay less for your milk than people in my area, I wen to chicago a few years back, chicken cost $1.98/lb but here in atlanta it was $3 more per lb. sadly, Georgia is the poultry capitol of the world, we produce more chicken than most countries, aparently you have a lower demand for the organic products and this sets the prices lower.

hey priz...do you know what the effects of those hormones on humans through milk is?

i'm wondering about that, because i love milk and have been drinking whole milk for just about ever.

whole milk is better for you than the lower fat stuff, if you do a serach on google regarding geneticly modified foods you will find that many countries in the european union are requiring the GM foods to be labeled, dozens of countries clam the GM foods are a type of poison. there have been studies that link GM foods to different cancers, weight problems and many other health risks, simply put, the cross breeding and over proscessing of most of these foods remove many different essential protiens, bacteria and even parasites from our food, eating it wont nescasarily kill you but it's doesn't promote good health

The hormone and antibiotic issue with cattle is severly tainted, most of what you hear rregarding the cattle industry is erronious. Firstly, Beef cattle are seldom pumped full of theses antibiotics, if they are ill then they may recieve an injection or it may be added to feed, if they are continualy added then when the cow becomes ill then the antibiotics wont work when they are needed, the same occurs in the organic meat industry... the growth hormones are used more frequently than are antibiotics.

I'm not sure what your age is but I've noticed that when I was 12 the occurance of a D-cup 12yo was very rare, now it's becoming more and more common, I see girls have started developing much eariler as well.

I encourage you to do as much research as you can, avoid the PETA supporting websites as most of that nfo is 30years outdated, PETA is a militant organization that doesnt give a shit about your health or htat of the animals they are trying to 'save'. a good place to start is the FDA website, it's virtualy the opposite of PETA but at least it tells you the regulations regarding foods.

if you need more info or search tips let me know, I've gone a few steps beyond organic growing I try and start with heirloom seed and grow using sustainable agriculture methods and some traditional planting methods refered to as companion planting.

a little about me... I'm not a vegan/vegitarian, I eat a great deal of the unhealthy foods and feel that I do have an unbiased view of whats going on in AG today

awesome info man, thanks. and i'm not too old, but i do notice these younger girls that look like they should be around 18 when in actuality they're probably 13-15. wierd...

i'm guessing maybe this hormone 'infected' milk could affect females more, seeing as milk comes from the female and maybe some estrogen or something is involved...i don't really know, but it seems believable. it's all pretty interesting.

Horizon truly does taste better. Not like, "oh gee this milk is is a smidgeon better tasting then turkey hill brand". But, "wow this milk rocks my socks off its absolutely delicious!" type of goodness above that of regular milk.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that cheap here either, but I'd rather spend extra on my food than on the diseases I could get from eating other.....stuff.

ok it means that cows are not given synthetic growth hormones which means cows produce more of a fatty acid called CLA which aids in the fight against cancers.  It also means my doughter if I had one wouldnt pop out double D boobies by the age of 12.
They don't produce as much milk as confined cows,  But it has a richer color, a richer flavor and an improved vitamin content.

I feel that grass fed cows produce much richer vibrant milk that isnt as "blue/grey" as confined feed fed cows.

To me it just tastes better.

I couldn't agree with you more, it has a SWEET taste that is not in regular milk.  I hate regular 2% but if its organic it's like love at first taste.  What brand are you drinking, I like my Horizon but Organic Valley is pretty bomb too
