Couple shots of xgriseocaerulea and mescaleroensis from today

Very cool, I wonder how well of an invader mescaleroensis will be. Been tucked up in that habitat for so long. I got to visit the area it’s from last spring. No way for it to get out of there in its own. It must be very hardy to live in such a dry place.

It's actually crazy they survive like that at all. If these go even one day without water, and they're pretty much ready to die.

We got hammered really hard with rain a week ago. Over 10 inches in one day and that washed half my patch down hill, so that plus sporulation, and seeing if they'll survive the freeze.. we will see if they'll spread or if my ovoids will choke them out 😂

Thank you!
Yeah the problem was that i did not use a wire mesh to keep rodents away from the patch.
Got the advice here to use a wire mesh but the forest is at the edge of a town, so there are a lot of walkers.
Did not want to let it attract peoples attention...
The first layer of woodchips has been broken up by rodents trying to get the rye berries.
Next time i will choose a better spot, far off civilization.
More grain jars of both species are in progress.

Lay down wire mesh and put chips on top of it and rocks to hold it down. The mycelium will grow through the mesh onto the chips above. So you can totally hide it

Are slime molds a problem in outdoor beds? I have a rock on one of my beds that I lift up to check the myc and theres a nasty yellow slime mold running through the chips. Its been making these gross crusty blobs all over my yard. I am wondering if anyone has seen slime molds out complete WLs.

A big problem.  When I see it I shovel it out and the area around it.

Aw man! Thanks for letting me know. I was super hopeful to get first year fruits because all my myc was at the surface, I hope this doesn't ruin it

Hunting with Rhizo and Pheno sounds like a high-end shroom activity. Great find! You guys 'only' found caerulipes, or even more?

After seeing how wet the wood was in a lot of the pics from your guys hunt i decided to give a caerulipes PF+wood cake a thick ass soaking wet casing. We'll see how she does

Yellow slime mold got one of my beds last year. I have no proof but my working theory is that watering patches during hot weather makes it worse. At least i can say I stopped doing that and i haven’t seen any this year.:goodluck:

Sad news pending..
Started cyan , alleni and azzy in fabric buckets a few months back

Grain > sterilised woodchips > fermented chips

Needless to say the buckets have mainly turned to dark mush. I will try scattering the piles over separate locations outside.

Back to the drawing board.

Don’t give up, It took me many tries to get established mycelium outdoors. everything wants to eat it.

Waiting for it to fruit is even harder than failing though.

Thanks for the feedback I did think this was the case!
I just got paranoid about them drying out due to the fabric buckets.

Ah well at least I know moving forwards.

Standard procedure is to mix spawn and sub at 1:1 ratio initially then expand to beds ?

In other news have just added a few handfuls of fermented alder chips into ziplocks of:
- X grisco
- IWL
- Cyan
- Alleni

All of which have been colonising nicely

I'm determined to get a healthy patch going

Nah nowhere near 1:1 a tiny bit of grain goes a loooong way on chips and colonizes so fast. Too much grain and you'll every animal within a 100 mile radius tearing that bed up lol.

Tax: xgriseo again
