The disappointment of a ceasefire aside, which was speculative to begin with, that's missing the point of the meeting. Trump said well in advance there would be no deal today because he can't make a deal for Ukraine, he can only set the table and meditate for peace. The point of the meeting today was to see if the stage could be set for Zelenskyy and Putin to meet in the short future, and according to both Putin and Trump (and I hear Zelenskyy as well), it now has been.

Trump said overall great progress was made and there are still a few snags. He also said both Putin and Zelenskyy have suggested they'd like Trump present as well when they meet in an attempt to negotiate and end the war.

Nobody was expecting a deal today. It was a necessary preliminary meeting before Putin, Zelenskyy, and possibly Trump again, will meet.

In other related news, Hillary Clinton came out of silence today (maybe it was yesterday), and said she would nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize herself if he can stop the war without capitulating to Putin's demands. Obviously, Trump's going to have to get them both to meet in the middle so it won't happen based on Hillary's terms... but the timeline we're living in now is still really, really funny.
