We are seeing a continuation of a political program CENTURIES in the making. Trump doesn’t represent some wild departure from traditional U.S. political power, he’s simply the next logical progression of it.

The attempt to blame Russia is just intellectual laziness that only serves the interests of the U.S. empire. It’s no different from segregationists trying to pin the civil rights movement as agents of communism.

“Hmm how can we dissuade the most base level rubes from supporting this movement while also implying that those who do are enemies of the state?”

As far as I can tell a liberal is someone who who believes in capitalism, and enriching those on top, and maintaining the status quo financially and maybe has some social liberal ideas like LGBT love and diversity and anti racism (at home)

Both liberals and conservatives fall under the umbrella of neo-liberal, no party has made any strides in protecting the worker lately, and they cater to their doners

I personally consider myself a social democrat, and to me that means protecting the status quo to some extent, the so called "American dream" where anyone could start a business and survive, but I want to see more regulations on businesses that benefit the population, the people "we the people" should be able to decide what a business can and cannot do, not who ever lobbies the most money for laws regulating their own business, I want to see workers get more value for their work, as workers literally are the ones extracting value, I'd like to see maximum wages and higher minimum wages with the money we save from maximum wages, I want to see businesses get tax breaks for investing back into their company instead of the shareholders

Liberals, by definition, believe in capitalism lol. Private property rights are foundational to liberalism.

If liberals believed in democracy and nothing else they’d be communists (the democratic control of the state and economy). Liberals favor democracy to the extent that the working class can vote on who their masters are from a select group of people nominated by said masters.

Fascism is just the logic progression of neoliberal capitalism. A merger of corporate and state power to enrich capital.

There is no ideological distinction necessary. MAGA just turned the dial to the right one more notch.

People on this forum have been doing the “Trump is doing new thing that’s unprecedented!” line for nearly a decade, and yet none of these things has been unprecedented. He’s just dropped the kayfabe, the little “democracy and free markets” song and dance that reassured the plebs that the people in charge had the right ideas and were doing them at their benefit.

Right now everyone is freaking out that DOGE will drastically cut entitlements just to balance a budget nobody cares about as if it’s the end of the American experiment, except Reagan already did this. Clinton already did this.

Well said. All I/we can do is hope that when he and his dogs run away, they leave something enough behind for the rest of us to snack on. That is, unless resistance to the government is had, that is a genuine revolution. Something to ensure genuine checks and balances are in place and working proportionally as needed. 

Then, there’s that, or, for now, there’s mostly just half unhappy people and then there’s those in collusion - knowingly or unknowingly or at least the lightest form of abetting - and, In which case it’s nothing but the same old thing changing over and over, staying the same while changing, progressing, etc. :sadyes:

I don't think he will be successful. Elon will crash and burn soon and Trump will get dementia just like Biden did, and the christian nationalist will be pulling the strings from behind the stage.

Even if not, those are all things that are in play anyway, one way or another.
The position of the presidency in the US has been enhanced with new power and strengthened by what once were supposedly checks and balances.  Now though?  Likely all on the take, even more so than before, and, if not? Then they’ll get the boot if they made that easy.  In which case another more suitable pawn is selected to replace the anpostate of the state; further bolstering the executive branch even more. Just how much can it grow in power, how far can they go? And to what ends exactly? 

All the way, insofar as possible anyway
- if history and human nature are anything to go off of, that is.
And to any and all ends a human with so much power and influence could want
- insofar as possible, of course.

No idea what how that will come down the pipelines to effect all of our lives sooner than later.  Right now I think it’s like we’re in clear, but really it’s just the lag time of hysteresis in effect, so, it’s coming alright - winter is coming - so dress warmly.  Then again, they always come and go, so yeah.

Oh, no it’s not gonna get better. The infrastructure for a world without as at the top is slowly being developed, and the next big economic recession will likely see a sharp retraction in standard of living here in the West. That’s why the fascists are rising. People see what’s coming over the horizon and they’re faced with a decision: play second fiddle to China or genocide the global South, and America is #1 baby.

I mean, look at the state of liberal (read: subservient to capital above all else) opposition in the West. SDP in Germany is barely even relevant anymore, same with Macron’s centrists in France. Starmer’s austerity regime via Labour in the UK just erased a massive polling margin and will likely cede power to Farage and the Reform lunatics. And here in the States the Democrats are like 5 weeks into Trump 2.0 and are already shrugging and saying there’s nothing they can do except get more racist and be nicer to Silicon Valley.

We’re cooked. Thanks to these geniuses, there is no left anymore, and all the liberals can do in the face of rising fascism is just run interference for them and slowly normalize all their insane bullshit.

You’re making a mistake thinking Trump and Elon are aberrations and whose agenda will die with them, but like I pointed out before: they’re just the next iteration of the political program that’s been rolling for centuries.

When JD Vance or the next Thiel acolyte seizes power, and is much more efficient because their brains aren’t melted by syphillis or ketamine, you’ll be longing for the days when the fascists we’re funny and incompetent.
