#2908616 -

Are these two types of psilocyben edible? Without possible health problems.

Coprophila is very week and hallucinogenic. It should be alright to eat. I couldn't find anything on Thrausta.

inedible
too much will cause stomache upset, sort of like wood pulp. its not digestible or nutritios. also the substrate tends to support fecal coloforms and ecoli

As far as i know, Psilocybe coprophila is not the least bit hallucinogenic.. right?

My National Autobon Society Field Guid to North American Mishrooms says that they are weakly hallucinogenic

Coprophila has no psilocybin or psilocin

Maybe it has differant chemicals in it. If it isn't psycho active at all, I don't know why my book would say that it is.

There is quite a bit of speculation..
about different species and thier active
properties... I've always been told they are not...

And call me a wimp but I'm not one to buck the
system... good luck MAGnum.... I would listen to
Mitchnast , The Red Crayon..and GG...

"Psilocybe coprophila  is the only true Psilocybe  species occurring in the HawaiianIslands.  The species has miniscule amounts of psychoactive compounds and isgenerally considered as not hallucinogenic and relatively harmless.  The small, darkreddish brown, viscid pileus is distinctive.  It is found commonly in cow dung."

Sounds like enough to get someone busted but without any chance of having fun :frown:

i would like to see credible proof that they indeed contain psilocybin, psilocin, or baeocytin.

by credible i mean, wholly cultivated specimines, free from contamination from the mycellium or fruiting bodies of other coprophillic and possibly active fungi (under strict laboratory conditions) by experienced biochemists who understand the importance of an accurate report and arent hasty to assume a chemical pressence where there is none, thus having the erroneus conclusion published in multiple texts by authors who have only the error to go on.
real, rock-solid evidance.  because it seems theres alot of misinformation spreading. and its widely accepted.

here, it should stop.  until it is proven conclusively otherwise, it ought to be considered that there is no credible conclusive evidance to P. coprophillia being a psychoactive species.

if they are, then it is indeed in such an insignificant ammount that one could not phisically derive a real effect from any ammount of this species consumed by any normal means.

psilocybin must be in a certain ammount before it is "psychoactive"  and (purely hypothetical) trace ammounts do not constitute "active"  and therefore "halucinogenic"

they do pack a wicked placebo im told.

>Coprophila is very week and hallucinogenic

This is an error that is common in a lot of books. Not true. It could be possible that certain specimens from certain locations contain very trace amounts of psilocybin, but probably not.

A friend of mine injested 50+ speicmens and the most he got from them was a wicked case of diarreah.

Mitchnast said:
psilocybin must be in a certain ammount before it is "psychoactive"

But it can still contain trace amounts of psychoactive material without being psychoactive.

I think that was taken into consideration: [it] is generally considered as not hallucinogenic.

Peace

my points are
a. theres no credible proof of ecven trace ammounts
and
b. such claims otherwise are practically in the form of urban legend. ex. "this mushroom is generally considered mildly halucinogenic"

a weak and unsure statement if there ever was one. hardly representitive of conclusive information.

more suggestive of an annecdotal reference. perhaps a mixed find or a misidentification bioassayed by a novice.

my question, the burning question on all out minds, is where did this whole "p. coprophilia active" paradigm begin?

we all pretty much know how paneolina foenisecci was mistakingly considered active, (mixxed harvest) and pan sphinctrinus is widely considered weakily active also, as is psilocybe squamosa and P. montana.

none of them are however active

Neither are psychoactive at all in any way manner or form. They do contain some tryptamine compounds buit nothing psychoactive. Many books carried over mistakes from earlier publications wwithout reading o up on current literature regarding them. you could eat one or one pound and they are not neurotopic at all./

Sorry , Lincoff has numerous mitakes in his Audubon guide as well as some edible species mistakes int he Simon and Shulster book he also edited. And the Lincoff book is out of order in species families and is confusing to many.,

David Aroras two books are much better guides.

Also many new books still list Panaeolina foenisecii as mildy active or on the east coast yes and west coast no. Taken form Gary MEsers book and from Aroroas book and no facts to present that they were what either claimed.

It too is not active. There are at least 80 species or so of Psilocybe mushrooms which do not contain any psilocine or psilocybine inthem.

Have a shroomy day,

mj
