testing new sleeping pill

i have insomnia, as many of us here do...
one night while listening to the radio at like 2:30am i heard a commercial looking for test subjects for a new sleeping pill...i figured what the hell, could be fun. so i called the number, went in for a psych evaluation and took a little "sleeping test"...basically it was a checklist wanting to know about my sleeping habits...anyway, tonight was the first night of the actual study. went into the lab and had my brain hooked up to a computer to monitor my brainwaves while i attempted to sleep...i was supposed to stay all night, but after about 5 hours i got sent home....lol i got sent home from a sleep study cuz, well, i couldnt sleep :grin: i did get about 2 and a half hours off and on, like i usually do, and the told me they had all the info they needed, and i could go home. in the next few days they will be giving me the drug (or a placebo) to take every night for 3 nights, then on the 4th night i go back to the lab and have my brain monitered again to see if there was any changes....this first night was just to get something to compare the results to i suppose....

its pretty cool, tomorrow they are going to go over the results of tonights test with me...anyway, im pretty excited, i finally get to see what my brains doing when i sleep....

something kinda weird though....as i was leaving i was talking to one of the researchers, and he told me that "from what he saw tonight, i have very interesting sleeping habits" lol, what ever thats supposed to mean :grin:

How much are they paying you?

i got paid $200 and got my wisdom teeth yanked for free about 5 years ago at NIH. all i had to do was take an experimental "pain" drug for them and have my blood taken everyday for a week. after the surgery i had to sit through 1 hour of excruciating pain because their new pain pill didnt work at all - or was a placebo. then after the 1 hour was up i could take regular pain meds.

the fucked up thing is i went through the paperwork i had signed, and buried in all the paperwork was a section that said basically i signed over my DNA to the National Institute of Health :shocked:

i wouldnt be a guinea pig unless they are payin ya :wink:

Try not to put just any chemicals in your body. You may regret it in the future.

Aim for what nature provided you, like natural herbs and veggies. Go for the good stuff!

ok, so this is what they told me...

basically, when i do fall asleep, i jump almost instantly into rem sleep. i cycle through the first 3 stages of sleep within a matter of 5-10 minutes, and hang out in the 4th for about another 5, then its rem...they dont know why this is...they also told me i show signs of rem sleep behavior disorder, which is an uncommon sleep disorder where people can actually act out their dreams, due to the brains lack of control over the paralysis of the body during dreaming...this session was also video recorded, and i actually sat up and had a conversation with on of the researchers for about 10 minutes...i was wondering where my wrestling shoes were... :tongue:

they told me that this may also explain my sleep walking (which i do probably 3 or 4 times a month) and the sleep paralysis i get every now and then. apparantly, the rem cycle of sleep is being carried over to a few minutes after i actually wake up, and sometimes starts before i actually fall asleep...when i do wake up, i am usually very disoriented, and cant remember if what i was dreaming was actually part of my waking day or not...

they also told me that this can be a potentially serious condition, and refered me to a sleep specialist for a more complete diagnosis...except i have no health insurance, and im pretty sure this is gonna cost quite a bit...

also, they told me that they didnt want to allow me to go any further in this study, due to potential health risks, and advised me to drop out....

my brains fucked up guys.... :smirk:
