Edge of shoeboxes

Whats up my beautiful people. Quick question - for some reason my shoeboxes have one edge that seems to not colonize. I have 5 running and they're all doing the same thing. I mean, it does look healthy to me and is knotting up - I'm just wondering what's going on with these edges? So I can do something different next time. Cause of concern?

My best guess would be that those sides of the tubs are getting more airflow around them than the other side, and maybe that edge is drying out. Is that the side that's towards the middle of the room? And the other side is towards the wall? I've noticed that shoeboxes are very sensitive to even small amounts of airflow around them, and I've really had to keep an eye on them in the winter when the heater is pushing air around.

Is that whole side uncolonized all the way to the bottom or just that little strip on the surface?

Interesting...never seen this. Any temp difference on that side of the room? An air duct? Maybe colder?

That's a great observation!!! I'll have my girlfriend tell me if it's just the surface or that actual whole side. But that would certainly make the most sense! I'll have her flip them around the other way and see what happens. At least while I'm out of state - will be back in two days just in time for the fruits! Looking like I'll have some mushies here shortly!

It totally is colder. They're in the spare bedroom in a closet which would allow much more airflow to that side. I'm almost more than certain homie nailed that.
