I have plans somewhere for a negative ion generator... is this the same thing? I donno if I can find the plans or not as they are probably in storage.

This does the same thing as the ionic breeze, but is a lot cheaper.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

What would be the point to making a ionic breeze? Those sharper image things are pieces of crap. You want to know why they are so quiet, because they don't have a fan, and if they don't have a fan they can't move decent amounts of air. I bet a 80mm computer case fan moves more air than an ionic breeze.

Look around online, most of the other hepa air purifiers will post up their CFM, sharper image doesn't. Now I'm sure you've all seen the commercials, and they fill up a small container with smoke, and put the ionic breeze in it. No doubt it works, but your not living in a 1ft x 1ft x 2ft room.

I've posted this before, consumer reports have done reviews on air purifiers, and the ionic breeze is always the worst performer. Why does it perform so terribly, because they measure how fast they clean a room. Many other models can clean a room several times in an hour, but since the ionic breeze moves so little air, it probably takes weeks to fully recirculate all the air.

I'm sure that is true to some extent, but have you ever smelled the air out of one of a negative ion generator? Man I love it. They are cheaper to run too, no filters/mold. If you could build it cheap enough you could put one in every room. I have a couple of the ones Evolving linked and it only takes 5-10 minutes until I can smell its affects. Although they dont have a fan you can feel airflow through it. This is caused by the dirt and crap being negativly charged and rushing twards the positivly charged plates. That caused it to carry the air with it.

the negative ionizers. from what i recall. just attach negative ions onto particales in the air(duh) and this makes them heavier and fall to the floor for vacuming.

id build a ionic breeze with a fan. howd you liek that. haha

so whats the collection plates for?

I have one, actually two because I love them. They move air so slow, but you dont need to have huge air movement. I have horrible allergies to dogs, but I havent had any problems since I got them, maybe you think they are dumb but they work.

And all that shit that they collect after two weeks. Who needs a fan ?

i was talkign about the negative ionizer. if i am nto mistaken the ionic breeze produces a negative ions into the air then the collection plates are positivly charged.

> from what i recall. just attach negative ions onto particales in the air(duh) and this makes them heavier and fall to the floor for vacuming.

Actually, they give a charge to the airborn particles floating around. Opposite charges attract. This effect causes the stuff floating around in the air, now with a charge, to get pulled to the walls, ground, etc. Weight has nothing to do with how it works.

> if i am nto mistaken the ionic breeze produces a negative ions into the air then the collection plates are positivly charged.

Either way, the plates are oppositely charged from the particles. This causes the particles to accelerate towards the plates getting stuck in the filter.

the ionic breeze isnt the same type of ionizer that you see added to a HEPA-style air cleaner.

Because the ionic breeze uses positively charged collection plates, its more like an Electrostatic Precipitator.

> like heavy water

Heavy water is water made with deterium (hydrogen with one neutron) instead of regular hydrogen (with only a proton, no neutron). The extra neutron adds weight, thus the term heavy water...

You should be able to find all the parts you need in an old (or new) laser printer.

The corona discharge wire(s) in a laser printer work pretty much just like an ionic breeze.

The same method is used to make the toner stick to the paper as is used to trap dust in an ionic breeze.
