mac osx and linux printer sharing

Alright, I have a printer connected to my computer running linux. I have the printer setup through cups and working fine from the directly connected machine. I have also clicked the 'share this printer' box in the cups configuration interface.
Now I want to be able to use this printer from my macbook, and don't know how to go about doing that. I went to the add printer/fax thing in preferences, and there is not just a 'add network printer' or anything. There is an ip button, and I've tried using both internet printing protocol (IPP) and line printing daemon (LPD), then using the path to printer on network, which is
hxxp://archlinux:631/printers/mx310
I can even connect to the administration interface by typing the above into safari from the mac, but adding it does not work, says the network is busy...any other ideas?
thanks

So, your mac box recognizes it, but it's saying printer busy...Is that right?
Is the printer shared??

Can you see cups on safari at hxxp://<arch host>:631?
If so add these lines to /etc/cups/cupsd.conf
Browsing On BrowseOrder allow, deny BrowseAllow all BrowseRemoteProtocols all BrowsePoll IP_OF_YOUR_SERVER:631 BrowsePort 631
Then reboot.

yeah, i ticked the box for sharing in the cups administration page.'
here is my cupsd.conf file Code:
DefaultEncryption IfRequested LogLevel info SystemGroup sys root # Allow remote access Port 631 # Enable printer sharing and shared printers. Browsing On BrowseOrder allow,deny BrowseAllow all BrowseRemoteProtocols all BrowseAddress @LOCAL DefaultAuthType Basic <Location /> Allow localhost # Allow shared printing... Order allow,deny Allow all </Location> <Location /admin> Allow localhost # Restrict access to the admin pages... Order allow,deny </Location> <Location /admin/conf> AuthType Basic Require user @SYSTEM Allow localhost # Restrict access to the configuration files... Order allow,deny </Location> <Policy default> <Limit Send-Document Send-URI Hold-Job Release-Job Restart-Job Purge-Jobs Set-Job-Attributes Create-Job-Subscription Renew-Subscription Cancel-Subscription Get-Notifications Reprocess-Job Cancel-Current-Job Suspend-Current-Job Resume-Job CUPS-Move-Job> Require user @OWNER @SYSTEM Order deny,allow </Limit> <Limit Pause-Printer Resume-Printer Set-Printer-Attributes Enable-Printer Disable-Printer Pause-Printer-After-Current-Job Hold-New-Jobs Release-Held-New-Jobs Deactivate-Printer Activate-Printer Restart-Printer Shutdown-Printer Startup-Printer Promote-Job Schedule-Job-After CUPS-Add-Printer CUPS-Delete-Printer CUPS-Add-Class CUPS-Delete-Class CUPS-Accept-Jobs CUPS-Reject-Jobs CUPS-Set-Default> AuthType Basic Require user @SYSTEM Order deny,allow </Limit> <Limit Cancel-Job CUPS-Authenticate-Job> Require user @OWNER @SYSTEM Order deny,allow </Limit> <Limit All> Order deny,allow </Limit> </Policy>

alright, did all that, and now it
-Says connection to printer -Connects after about 1 second -Printer automatically goes to 'paused' state
So, now it seems its getting closer. However, even when in 'paused' state, when i click resume printing, it immediately goes right back to paused, and still will not print.

Did you edit this line: BrowsePoll IP_OF_YOUR_SERVER:631 to include your IP of your server?

I am good(well I consider myself good) with both Linux, and with Windows...But I hardly know anything about a mac.
Check this thread out, and see if it helps. I have a few guys I work with in IT that have mac's, and also run Linux. I will ask them as well.
Make sure port 661 is open, which it should be, but sometimes things happen. If you are behind a router check it out as well.

This may also be worth your time to see about:
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/foomatic
There you can get everything to get your printer working I believe.
Like I said I will ask these other guys about it, but hopefully that helps.
