The other day my cousin was looking over his network. It is a combo of wired/wireless. While poking around, he found a machine that was not his on the network.
Well, he went to work enabling WAP, his firewall, turned off the network broadcasting, etc. The next day, he got his confirmation that his network was secure. How so you ask? The cable company was next door trying to figure out why they couldn't connect to the internet any more.
I'm sure you've heard these stories before, but always secure your wireless network, unless you don't mind sharing it with freeloaders/wardrivers. Plus, it adds a somewhat necessary level of security.

In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"
"People do it every day, they talk to themselves ... they see themselves as they'd like to be, they don't have the courage you have, to just run with it."

yeah, the standard encryption used on wireless ethernet is rather weak and exploitable.
you can always run open or freebsd , to get better encrytption and all other security features are so much better than windows and linux.

Assuming they know that they are sharing... just because I leave my lawn mower sitting in the front yard doesn't mean that I give you permission to use it to mow your yard.

Yes, if you are using it without permission from the owner.
Is it illegal to drive off with somebodies car even though they left it running with the doors unlocked while going into the store real quick?

Its good to share with people you know.
Its good to also remember, that if the people that 'share' your internet connection use it for illegal purposes, *YOU* are the one that has to explain it.

Thats the same thinking as "If your not doing anything wrong you shouldn't mind if the government snoops into you business." Sharing is only shareing if specific consent is given.
