Play along picture diary of hot minizip cultures.
Testing to see how Beef's minizips survive the heat.

Pulled 8 culture samples that were about to be dumped to reuse the dishes.
2 cube GT, 2 tamps, 2 pan cyan (bunnell & kona), 2 subtropicalis bell cap

Grabbed an envelope, bubble mailer and a birthday card.

Had to squish some first.

Then set them outside to think about what they had done for a few days.

Here is the local forecast according to two apps for the next several days.

I plan to put half of them in a hot car on Saturday or Sunday for a couple of hours before doing some transfers to see how they all fare.

wild. its almost like mycelium is resilliant and adaptable.  Its like its been around for long time, or something.  Its  like, it actually didnt evolve in a sterile, room temperature environment.  bizarre.

Yup. I didn't realize that I was short on plates. So I had to mix up a batch. They are cooling now. Will do some transfers tonight and update with more info when they take off (or not)(they will).

They were outside for two days with highs of 109 and 111 lows in the high 80s. (highs ~43c, lows ~31c) Then I took them inside for the weekend because I was out of town. When I got back yesterday, I put them in the car parked in the shade for two hours. Drove them around while doing some chores, then put them on my desk and realized that I needed more plates. And here we are.

I hope they work out just as well as the ones you sent.

Well, inconclusive result so far. 1 out of 8 baggies that were swabbed to new plates survived the ridiculous heat stress test. The unsquished tampanensis recovered. However, I think that I still see life in the other baggies, so I am going to transfer some bigger chunks to new plates before grading.

  To be continued...

However, don't send me anything this week. It is 117f (47c) here for the next few day dropping to 111f (44c) by this weekend. fml
