Bush and Freedom of Speech

AP

Bush Defends Iraq War in Visit to W.Va.

(Opening paragraphs of regurgitated Bush-speak skipped)

Two Bush opponents, taken out of the crowd in restraints by police, said they were told they couldn't be there because they were wearing shirts that said they opposed the president.

Yes, folks. Wearing a t-shirt is not allowed by Bush-thugs. Books and movies banned next?

Lincoln banned free speech during the American Civil War and so did another president with the Alien and Sedition Acts.

Oh, well fuck it then.

Swami, If this was on private property, then it's merely a statement of his character, if it was on public property, then to me it was an illegal act.

Do you have a link?

So two self-professed opponents of Bush claim the only reason they were removed was because of their T-shirts and for no other reason than that. What reason did the police who removed the two give for doing so?

That's one credulous reporter, mang. Good thing he's not on the police beat --

You are right. Our government and its agents never get heavy-handed or break the law; only citizens are capable of criminal activity.

I was arrested for rape many years ago even though the police knew it wasn't me as the victim specifically told them so, but they did not like my hippie "look". I was handcuffed, verbally and psychologically abused then driven half an hour to the jail only to be then driven back home and released without being booked or charged.

Nope. Abuse of power never happens.

I think we're all aware it happens. It's just that not everyone who claims it is being factual.

And why is it I can imagine you saying nothing about this?

The claims may or may not be true, but the the Associated Press thought it noteworthy. They gave insufficient details to make a more detailed examination, but it does fit a general pattern of right's violations that has been developing.

From No-Knock warrants to the Rave Act and the Patriot Act to the arresting of sick & crippled medical marijuana patients at gunpoint to the invasion of a South Carolina middle school with guns drawn to being involuntarily searched at airports and elsewhere (I am 2 for 2 for full body patdowns with strict orders not to move an inch!) Soon we will have to have "papers" to go anywhere.

Just reading the barometer, my brother. The Nazis only got a foothold in Germany because "the people" did not stand up until too late and thought they were being patriotic.

This is not about Republican vs Democrat vs Libertarian. This is an eroding at the core of what our country is claimed to be about.

Without sufficient details, it "fits" nothing.

Yup. All those things certainly suck. Sadly, I don't think it would have made any difference who was President. A successful attack on American soil pretty much guaranteed some unpleasant change.

I don't believe we're related.

I've never suggested not standing up. I do think that far too many see things that just aren't there to see.

Of course it is.

It's that as well.

Had I been speaking of you I'd have said "in your case, of course it is".

Since I didn't say that, I thought that you'd realize I was talking about the country in general.

Freedom of speech? Defamation of Character can go a long way. You also cant go around yelling provocative words at somebody. You dont have rights to violate somebody else's, ever.

While I do not support these alleged actions , the same things were alleged to have happened during the Clinton years . There is a euphanism in law school " Hard cases make bad laws " . The reactions to the terrorist activities are something that none of us like , HOWEVER , the fbi was roundly critized about not breaking into Mouossoui's ( spelling) computer in the days following 9-11 and how that might have prevented .9-11. And while I do not support big brother , how many Madrids, 9-11 and other such acts will the public support . The bill of rights have been slowly or not so slowly been being eroded away for a long time . I am afraid that this is not about political parties it is about money , there are very few in congress or the senate who is not a millionaire or in one case a billionaire running for president so in a sense this has become taxation without fair representation . I watched a piece last night on 60 minutes about emminent domain and how peoples houses , businesses are being siezed becouse they do not fit the view of some govemerment official - this is not the goverment that I grew up under , this has become a democrat /republican dream ( socialist/fascist ). America as we knew it as children , at least the older ones of us , is no more.

I'm not sure if this comment is about the Clinton situation, or the Bush one, but in the case of Bush, these people were wearing shirts, not yelling.

The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.

The two people said they were removed for their T-Shirts, any other sources besides the people who were kicked out? The source is not a valid one.
