Bush's Speech

I missed it.
Everyone on CNN is saying it was g-r-r-r-r-eat!
I heard a little bit of this radio talk show where one guy called in and said that bombing Iraq would be a huge mistake and then people called up and said that that guy was crazy because Iraq finances terrorism and supplies terrorists with weapons of mass destruction.
Rut Roh George.

I also heard that the Iraqui representatives just sat there smirking and chewing gum as Bush chastized them.
They're baiting us.

Bushes speack was 20 minutes of him stretching out the same point over and over. He must have said the same thing five times in five diferent ways.
I dont buy for a second that his speach was to sway the international community or the UN.. It was to bolster the dying support of Americans for this war. The UN and individual countries have already made their decision or are makeing it based on facts that they know, not the words of the US president.
Plus Bush isnt that great of a speach giver, he lacks compassion in his voice and it was VERRY obvious that the speach was fed to him through an ear pice.

I don't know about this attacking Iraq business. I'm not sure if they'll be stupid enough to actually go through with it. The rest of the western world is against it, even Blair, who seemed to be Bush's lackey for a while is backpeddling. If Bush actually does go ahead and attack he's going to be losing the respect of A LOT of people.

Blair's got his tongue about as far up Dubya's ass as it will stretch. The only thing stopping the corporate lackey is the vast majority of Britons are totally against the war.

Think about this... can Bush change his mind? Does he have the option not to attack?

Bush is respected?
Sadly, yes. His approval rating is 69%.

I saw the speech on CSPAN. He made some interesting points.
1. Iraq has invaded its neighbors and launched ballistic missiles against them in the past, including attacks against Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait.
2. The UN Security Council has repeatedly demanded that Iraq follow the terms of surrender from the Gulf War to no avail.
3. Iraq has dangerous amounts of biological and chemical weapons.
These are three pretty scary truths in combination with one another.
Does the UN Security Council feel that Iraq is a threat?
It would seem so. Why else would they continue to humiliate themselves by demanding that they follow the terms to the Gulf War surrender? Houssain obviously has a thirst for at least expanding his borders. He has shown this by invading Iran and Kuwait.
Bush also gave Iraq and the UN the option to play by the rules set forth in '91.

So has Germany and Japan. Guess we should attack them too.

Methinks you need to read up a little on history. Here's a few facts:
1. The US did not enter the European front until very late in the war.
2. Hitler had many supporters in the US.
3. Jewish refugees were turned away.
So much for our altruistic vision of ourselves.

one cannot deny that US forces significantly aided in the fighting of the German army in WW2.
if you want to say "Hitler had many supporters in the US", you could also say "bin Laden has many supporters in the US", or "Stalin had many supporters in the US". it's a very subjective statement. and from all the history I've read, the majority of the US was pretty big into the war effort.
yes, sadly, some jewish refugees were turned away. fucked up shit. we also stuck the japanese in internment camps. fucked up shit. but I don't understand at all what that has to do with this argument. you might as well be talking about slavery or david koresh or the price of bananas these days. they're all fucked up shit if you ask me.
