How hard is it for an American to move to Canada?

I guess you'd have to get a working visa if you want to work, right? I don't know for sure but it sounds like a good idea.

The usual period for "temporary visits" to Canada is six months. If you are coming from the US you don't need a visa or anything like that just to stay here...but if you plan to work you'll need a work permit (see that above link).

I don't think there are any laws about you staying here for up to 6 months. I'm fairly certain you could find a place to rent without any trouble or anything.
