So I've been living at CFB Petawawa for about a year and a half now working with Canex. I help supply troops on exercise with food and supplies and other stuff like that.
My boyfriend is getting deployed to Afghanistan next spring and I don't want him to leave me for 6 months. I want to go with him. So what I have done is applied for a position, 6 month deployment, in Afganistan with Canex. I just got my confirmation letter that my application has been received and is currently being reviewed.
I really, really want to go. Not only just because I will get to experience the adventure with my boy...but it's something that I'll remember for the rest of my life.
Wish me luck, I'm waiting for my phone call!

whoa! don't go to Afganistan. your an american chick. They don't take to kindly to chicks, or americans over there. Your boyfriend will be fine without you for alittle while. stay in a place wher your more likely to survive. if you do go, invest in a bulletproof vest. And stay covered, and be careful for god sakes

wait a minute, is this the guy who proposed? What are the qualifications? Were any of the people you know who went, female? I just want you to be careful and realistic. This could be a life changing event and send you down new paths.

Just be careful - the insurgents in Afghanistan are just as bloody as the ones in Iraq, even if you don't hear about them that often.

NEWS Until the west helps the poor,(really helps the poor, instead just stealing their resouces under the banner of "saving" them, they should stay out of the poors business(in regrads to opium, etc etc etc) Removing debt???, not funding dictator , maybe the US could stop selling the worlds largest ammount of torture weapons as well Since the west claims to care about democracy(gee that word has been treated like a WHORE lately) Stay safe, you are not going to europe of even south america, the middle east is NO JOKE, be carefull and give these people the help they need, regardless of the fact that this war was about money and corruption and not "saving" the afghan people. They still need help now, bless your selfless heart, you have more courage then I.

I hope they issue you a side arm or a rifle and a bullet proof vest. Oh, if you get a chance, kill someone for me.

I'm pretty sure that the fact that I have no fear about the situation means that is where I am supposed to be. I will be spending the majority of my time on a Canadian base, and I will defintely be wearing a canadian flag at all times.
Of the two co-workers of mine that went over on the last tour, one of them was female. She also went over to experience the adventure with her husband and she came home with such a feeling of accomplishment that she's going back over next week without her hubby!
So I totally have all my hopes up about this, and if I don't end up getting the position, I'm going to be little bit (a lot) let down. I'm doing it a little bit for my boy...and I'm doing it a little bit for the opportunity to make a difference....but I'm also doing it a lot for me.
Now I play the waiting game.
p.s. Annie, he's not the one who proposed. After I said no, he started running around on me and we broke up around last christmas when I found out.
Adam is showing me new things about the world that I didn't even know existed. He's teaching me little things about life that I didn't know were even there. He's willing to bring me into his world instead of protecting me from it. I don't want to be a bystander. I don't want to be a patient military wife waiting at home for my travelling soldier. I want to be out there with him, side by side. He's changing my world for the better and I love him for it.

I don't think I could kill anyone. I don't have the mental capacity to be a killer. I'd be scarred for life.

An excellent outlook to have! I would rather be killed than kill anyone else
