First grow with the PF Tek - Questions * 1

Hey everyone! This is my first post here, but before I start I just want to say a big thank you to everyone on this forum for the treasure trove of info I've been lurking around in the past couple of weeks. You guys are awesome.

Anyways, I began my first PF Tek grow about a month ago. Up until now things have been going very well. The cakes reached full colonization pretty quickly, and I birthed them about 3 days after mycelium was visibly covering all sides of each jar (including the bottom). I now realize I was supposed to wait 7 days, but it's a bit too late to fix that.

I dunked all cakes for 24 hours and rolled them in dry vermiculite. I then began misting and fanning 3-6 times a day. My hygrometer/thermometer puts the SGFC at 90%-99% humidity and 69°F-72°F. (pictures of hygrometer included, I know it's crappy but I'd imagine it's better than nothing).


It's now been 12 days since placing them in the SGFC, and I'm starting to worry because I can't really see any pins or signs of progress. Given all of that, here are my questions/concerns:

1. Most of the cakes have begun turning blue in some places. Should I be worried?




2. The cakes haven't visibly changed in any way since I placed them in the chamber (besides bluing). I've been digging through the forums, but can't figure out if the mycelium is or is not supposed to reach through the verm layer. Should I be worried that it hasn't seemed to grow?

3. Seeing as they haven't started pinning yet, when should I expect them too? Should I change anything? Should I stop misting/fanning, or mist/fan more? Any help would be appreciated.

Them bitches dry as fuck. Maintain surface conditions of tiny water droplets and fuck yo hydrometer. Put a butt plug in some of them holes too.

How are you able to tell that they're dry? I figured that was possible but don't really know how to tell if they're properly hydrated.

They’re bruising blue and…visibly they are dry as fuck. There’s no micro water droplets on them and there’s 600 holes in your tubs.

Consider water tub tek instead.

He's right. Far too dry, probably too much fae. Hygrometers are pointless, eyes are all you need.
I grow shrooms in a plastic tote with the lid slightly ajar, that's it. Nothing else needed other than occasional viewing and misting.
SGFCs ere outdated. I don't fuck with that shit anymore but everyone here now says water tubs are the way to go.
Personally, I'd learn agar; look into brf pucks if you have any spore solution left.
Keep posting and asking questions.

Yeah mate, start to worry after about 3 weeks. When you fruit them before they're colonized they always take longer to fruit.
Keep the surface conditions optimal.
Fanning is outdated.
Hygrometer has its purpose for the 1st grow, and that's teach you that you absolutely wasted your money on it.

Yeah give it time looks to me your FC might be to big maybe ? And they are dry but , after the next dunk 24 hours she will be back solid white ! What strain is that ? I just changed over to a water tub and seen pins in 2 days mate ! It’s a lot less up keep I feel like . Also my jars had colonized rather fast and they’ve been so slow

Quick Update: I modified the fruiting chamber (taped over a bunch of holes) and starting misting more than necessary yesterday. I weighed the cakes before and after, and each one has increased about ~5 grams over night so they were definitely slacking on the moisture.

Awesome I had the grow im on now I’ve never had cakes inside the FC longer than 5 days to show pins it took a little over 2 weeks ! Like I said I’m rusty on my skills BUT , I wouldn’t be handling the cakes to much or weighing them I know your just trying to get it right I know back in the day the thought was a fully colonized cake the mycelium was a small barrier protecting the cake but these days idk mate .. another thing I dropped the SGFC and went with a water tub 2 days later the cake was absolutely loaded with pins ! It’s a lot less hassle and you don’t have to constantly baby sit it always wondering about this or that I HIGHLY recommend the water tub FC
