I found this today in a field, couldn't tell if it was growing on cow poo or just some wet dirt mixed with the grass (pretty sure it was poo). Sorry if the pics are bad.

Location: Southern Alabama: growing in a field on poo Cap: 3cm diameter, alternating rings of color (dark to light to dark etc.), color when dry is greyish but not too dark Gills: purple/black, pretty closely spaced Stem: 8cm, thin, not hollow but not completely solid Spore Print: dark purple/black Bruising: Can't tell Smell: Can't tell

It may be that I['m tripping hard but that top pic looks batty. Aside from that you said purple/black for sporeprint I would have said subbalteatus. More people are finding subbs IN poo and not mixed medium. What happened dude- no cubes today? tsk tsk...(jk).

I was just driving around looking for anything (I'm kind of afraid picking in the daytime--atleast at this field, we've been caught once there). These were close to the fence so I just hopped it real quick and picked. And the thing that sucks is I can't get out at night to go pick because my mom is paranoid. Plus, I wouldn't be able to get them inside without being asked what it was.

If I were someone else I'd tell you to stick them in the ol windowsill(sp?-jesus I'm a bad speller) and open it up and get them once you're inside. But I PERSONALLY would say- don't do things under your mothers roof that would or could be used against her if you were to be charged with possession...(blah blah- I'm so old).

Wewt. You've found active mushrooms. Those are Panaeolus subbalteatus. They're weak, but still active. Horray for you.

Why's that? What's the difference between the two? Damn those Pans, they all look alike.

According to Psilocybin Mushrooms of The World(p. 72), Panaeolus solidipes is synonmous with Panaeolus antillarum...

Can you get a picture of the cap where the flash isn't so strong? Would you describe the caps as white?
And no, you won't feel a damn thing from just two. You need 15-30 fresh mushrooms depending on their size. Roughly an ounce, fresh.

perhaps.... then thats what it is i suppose. one way or the other it is this mushroom. note the solid stipe, pan subb is hollow. also note the wet grey appearance, pan sub is more of a warm fawn reddish.
the stipe, you will find, on the mushroom posted is quite solid. hard even. ill find a pic of one ive found once on dung hang on.
also the cap is not banded, it is splitting radially. something ive found this mushroom does.

You've got some type of Panaeolus mushroom, fur-sure.
-Double-check the color of the spore-print, it should be Black; not purple/black or anything else.
Anyways,
I am not sure what type of Panaeolus you found, but i assume it is not-active. -Not Panaeolus subbalteatus. -Not Panaelus antillarum either.
