Why do we continue to refer to the mRNA injections as 'vaccines' when they do not confer immunity to the disease?

Vaccine: 'confers immunity to a specific disease'
Augment: 'to make greater, more numerous, larger, or more
                intense.'
Synonyms for AUGMENT: 'accelerate, add (to), aggrandize, amplify, boost, build up, compound, enlarge'

The mRNA jabs and subsequent boosters clearly match the definition of 'augment', and not 'vaccine'. They supposedly have the ability to augment the subject's immune system. They categorically do not confer immunity to the disease.

The thing is that "immunity" as the term is used in ordinary conversation (or in in other specialized senses like in law) can imply something absolute, but as used in medical science it's a matter of degree. Diseases like polio and smallpox have been eliminated in populations completely but it's not that being immunized for either of those things makes every individual person completely incapable of being infected with those diseases if they were to be exposed. The vaccines confer some immunity but it's not absolute. One might conclude from the total absence of those diseases in a given population that each individual vaccinated person must be totally immune but it's not the case. The higher the percentage of the population is vaccinated, the less likely anyone is to be exposed because on average viral loads will be lower in anyone who does get infected vs. if they weren't vaccinated, so they are less able to spread it to others.

I believe there was a common understanding that 'vaccines' conferred, at the very least, long-term immunity to the vast majority who received them (allowing for outliers). That common understanding was reinforced by statements made by both the President and the CDC Director.

Don't you think words matter in a situation where our own government is selling the entire population on a medical decision? People were led to believe one thing (immunity in the absolute sense of the word), and now are getting bait-and-switched into something else entirely (not immune; continuous injections necessary).

Politicians craft their words to manipulate people. The idea in their mind is that some people are not capable of doing the right thing without being manipulated into doing the right thing.

The right thing for everyone to do would have been to get vaccinated as soon as possible between December 2020 and March of 2021, alongside an imposition of travel restrictions and a program to help the rest of the world vaccinate their populations as quickly. that's the only way this could have been avoided, following the failure of the first three months to recognize and organize

If you can't say that you would have been able to recognize and help organize at the beginning of the threat then you are in no position to judge. You can commentate and speculate, as I do

Yeah, bro, you should really talk to the manager and get a refund.

Actually, those of us who tried to do the right thing were baited and switched into thinking that we lived in a civilized country where people would work together to limit the spread and achieve herd immunity, and so much of our efforts were made irrelevant by the sections of the population who stubbornly insisted on remaining in the middle ages, the politicians who pandered to them, and the employers who cared more about maintaining a profit stream than they did about the health and safety of their workers.
