A short way through... my idea on how the cycle happens is similar to yours. One difference is that there is no need for a collapse. The idea a collapse is necessary is perhaps an illusion of space and time.

The idea was originally that the universe simply dissolved into particles. It was pointed out that particles have mass. This is a problem because space and time are dependent on mass and vice versa. The idea is that without the things of the universe there is no universe. If it expands for trillions of years and ends up without mass, how big is it? Without mass the universe cannot be a size which is the same as saying it's a singularity. No collapse necessary.

There are hypothetical particles with negative mass, resultant of black hole radiation (Hawking radiation). Perhaps there is still some way for the universe to experience zero mass, rather than forever exist in a state of heat death.
