Food dehydrator - too hot?

I have a food dehydrator that has an adjustable temperature range that goes down to 95 degrees, would this be an OK temp for drying shrooms? I can't find dessicant ANYWHERE and these babies are ready to be picked.

Yea, that should be fine from what I have read. Some people use 155 degrees and report no problem.
Others will swear against using any heat but you'll be fine, and a food dehydrator is much easier than dessicant anyway.

no....i wouldnt use a food dehydrator....
even though 95 isnt really that hot....its still hotter then room temperature....at any temperature the shrooms are gonna lose potentcy slowley just because the chemical is decomposing....why promote this in even a small way with temps 20 degrees higher?
If you live in a dry climate you can get them pretty damm dry in front of a fan for a few days....definattly dry enough to hold for a few days then eat.....otherwise you should be able to order dessicant from ebay or sponsers if you need it

not tru....I've dried shrooms with a dehydrator that had only one heat setting....the shrooms were hot to the touch and were just as potent as shrooms fan dried with desiccant or a fd at 95...all I use is a fd and I wouldn't have it any other way

also if you think about it...hot water for tea dosen't seem to reduce potency and others claim they have put them on pizza and cooked in the oven with no potency loss as well....I go by experience...and my experience has taught me that the heat thing is more a myth than anything...if there is a potency loss it is not noticable

95 degrees is less hot than most days in summer. Using a dehydrator at this setting works wonders to get those mushies cracker dry.

what you lose from heat will be much less than what you'd lose from oxidation during a slower dry... theres even debate about whether the heat from a dehydrator is even enough to do any damage... IME, quick drying with a dehydrator works great...

i have the same dehydrator as pictured above and i put a toggle switch in that black wire you show removed. That way i can turn the heat on and off with a switch. I found that it took forever for them to dry with heat off and I started using the 115 degree setting. Trust me, NO LOSS in potency. The dehydrator works great.

I'm drying a batch in a food de hydrator right now. I don't have a temp switch so I stuck in a oven thermometer and it is reading 170 degrees F. I will post my results later.

What brand food dehydrator do you use? Is it the nesco all american with only an on/off switch? If so are you having good luck with it?
sorry just looking through old posts.

I think mycosupply had some...
if not, dessicant can be had in 5 lb cans from mrart.com do a search there for "flower drying art" its just a 5 lb can of blue/red indicating silica gel and an instruction sheet...
$12.99 the last time i checked...

What was the site that had the free bags and shipping supplies on it? If someones wants to search for that link, they had free dessicant there. I ordered some, havent used it yet, but I'm sure it'll be more than sufficient.

Use your food dehydrator at 95, they should be cracker in less than a day and no loss in potency. 115 would probably be ok but they're good at 95.
I don't know about that 190 statement though, that seems awfully high.
