    #27633716 -

Hi  - sorry I neglected to get a spore print for this and it's dry now

Habitat: on compost, amongst bamboo in tropical greenhouse in UK
Smell:  'panaeolus' type smell - (carob, playdough mushroomy )smells the same to me as Panaeolina foenisecii
Some faint blue staining on stem?

Fresh:

Dried:

sorry pics are so big - not sure how to shrink

Damn can't upload!! Do imgur links  not work?

Imgur should let you copy a BBCode link for embedding pictures in forum posts.
When did you find this? Looks interesting, but we'll need to see the gills at least.
Also check in on the bamboo regularly since I believe there is a good chance you might find more.

Being England and from the looks I would of guessed Psilocybe cyanescens but I have no idea of the UK's mushrooms so wait for someone with more idea than me!!!

Look to be: Psilocybe cyanescens
Wait for others to confirm

Exactly what I thought especially with the woody mulch it's grown from! the only thing that threw me off psilocybe Cyan's was that it was growing in a tropical greenhouse thought they needed real cold to fruit! Maybe the UK greenhouse did get cold enough though!

I don’t think it was psilocybe cyanescens because :

No wood chips - pure black compost/soil mix

Heated tropical/subtropical greenhouse - never gets cold enough

Smell different from cyanescens - as mentioned it smelt like pan foes

White band around edge of cap

Will try to get more specimens and a spore print!

often wood in the compost def cant rule it out on that... but would expect more bruising...

He did say it was growing amongst the bamboo.... that’s a highly woody food source for my mycelium. Not to mention, most potting soil I see, except for pure broken down compost, has small semi-composted “forestry products” as they call it (tiny pieces of wood). Looks like the smallest mushroom has some bruising around the cap, unless it’s just a spore deposit from the one above it.

Damn ! Went back this morning to get more specimens for a spore print but the greenhouse was closed for maintenance.

I understand the comments about the substrate but I have picked ps cyanescens before and these were different; the distinct banded colour zones I’ve not seen in ps cyanescens  - different smell, and cyanescens needs low temps to fruit - this greenhouse is heated and contains subtropical tender plants so I don't think they'd let the temperature get low enough for ps cyanescens - also cap texture is different - less shiny than cyanescens - I'll try again and I'm predicting a black or brown spore print....

Given that you found these in a tropical greenhouse, which is an untypical habitat for P. cyanescens, I suggest
you try to get this collection analysed properly, i.e. by microscopy and DNA sequencing. It might be something not normally found in the UK.

my untrained eye initially thought these could be ovoids, is that even possible or am I misguided?

If you go back through the Bay Area thread (probably half way through or before) from this fall/winter someone posted (I think zenzone) up a good side by side comparison picture of cyans and ovoids (or maybe allenii and ovoids). You can see the differences there. The most prominent difference to me is the ovoids have a ring around the stipe.
