fine then. i've worked at or near minimum wage my entire life, for about 20 years. i've literally survived at the bottom of the barrel and know exactly how it is to survive on nothing but sheer luck, juggling bills, praying that nothing breaks down before my next paycheck comes in and i can decide how many days to starve to afford fixing said broken thing, or if i should break down and beg a family member for help.

i've tried to get ahead and gotten beaten back by the damn system every time because bosses do not want to give full time jobs due to having to pay benefits for full time workers, they do not give out raises to workers (believe me, i've asked around), and your options are taking on thousands to tens of thousands of dollars of student debt to get a degree to get a higher paying job then spending decades paying it off for a marginal increase if your lucky, or a trade job if your lucky enough to have a body strong enough to handle it, or a minimum wage job if you do not. ( i do not. growing up in poverty is not conductive to a healthy body.)

i have one pair of pants left because i cannot afford new ones, a few shirts left, an airbed thats sprung yet another slow leak, i suspect, an apartment thats got no decorations because i cannot afford any, and crappy food that half the time is leftovers from the hot case at work i take home to save on my EBT benefits. don't give me shit about "too emotional, buddy". i don't give a damn about your "opinion" on my emotion level. your opinion on the subject aint worth shit.

People whom have highly valued skills are never in need of work.

You blaming your lack of success on the system as a whole speaks volumes.

You cannot even except that you are to blame for your own failures.

Start there.

fuck ya'll and your shriveled ass souls. may you be cursed with 20 years of suffering until you reach true enlightenment and growth. peace.

How do you know I haven’t suffered?

I started working at age 13 picking eggs at my neighbors farm.
But I really started working at 7 when I had to butcher chickens with my grandpa so we had meat in the freezer for the winter.

I lived in a closet at my small business for over a year because I couldn’t pay rent, and what the fuck I was working 14-16 hours anyways.

How come when a hurricane hits the people that can figure out the logistics of helping people get food and shelter are whos essential but on a nice sunny day the person doing the self check out job for me is essential?

If I got a job at a grocery store at an entry level position it would be about 4 days before I had a better job at the grocery store.

That's not how minimum wage jobs work, lol. You're just ungrateful aren't you? You think life is the way it is because you made it that way. You couldn't be more wrong. Where you start in a race is just as important as your skill. Or if you were to compete in a race would you just say, "Start at the back? Hah! I'd be in first place by the end of the first lap." No, how it works is this - everyone in front of you wants you to stay there. Minimum wage jobs often offer no room for advancement. It doesn't matter how 'good' you are at your job. If you're good at your job why would I move you somewhere else? The goodness of my heart? If I'm a manager do I just go, "Yeah look at this guy though! 4 days!!! Imma quit right now and give this man my job that's only $2/hr more than anyone else here."

i mean, inflation happens for a ton of different reasons, not just due to "money printer go whirrrzzz lul!". governments try to use various tools, such as adjusting interest rates, to try and prevent inflation from occurring by influencing the market via encouraging businesses to invest more of their stored up capital (or less), but it's really only so much you can do. especially right now, with interest rates at pretty much rock bottom.

regardless, cost of living goes up regardless of minimum wage. the economy grows by around 2-3% a year, ideally. cost of living is naturally going to go up over time as the economy grows and the market, being a living thing, also changes. maybe in the far future it will go down if the population also shrinks, but deflation is often not a fun thing for an economy. it's... usually a very un...fun thing. considering our rate of population growth in the US, however, unless we start opening up to immigration soon, we're probably going to see deflation in some decades due to an aging population, similar to Japan. hopefully we won't be so closeminded about foreigners as they are. (who am i kidding, there's no way we'll adapt an open borders policy to save ourselves, conservatives would declare a second civil war.)

Why would immigration help the US worker?  We already have depressed wages, how would more people in an already over saturated labor market help the working class?  You do realize the very wealthy are the people spewing the narrative you're attempting to sell?

Do you know what helps the deflation that hurts the US worker?  Higher wages and better social programs!!!  Not more workers to compete with that only benefits the very wealthy.

deflation happens for different reasons, but one big cause is from a falling population. immigration would help in this case to counter a falling population. the US is barely maintaining it's own population as it is with the growth rate, and the amount of kids on average is falling year by year. this is a common issue to first world countries - people simply just have less kids in more developed countries. elevating third world countries to second then first world countries is, in fact, one of the best ways of curbing population growth. you see an initial population boom as people have a lot of kids (because in those countries, lots of kids is the norm - you expect not all kids to survive), and suddenly all those kids are surviving. but then as those kids are all surviving, the next generations have less and less kids naturally. within a few generations it tends to drop off to 2 kids on average or less, like Japan.

now, i'm not saying we should have open borders where the immigrants are illegal immagrants still, because then we simply have cheap labor that outcompetes labor already here and that defeats the purpose - although, truth be told, no one in america really wants to WORK the jobs that illegal labor usually works. it's hard as fuck work, pays little, and is smelly, dangerous, and gross stuff like processing raw animal carcasses or working all day in extreme weather picking berries. so...america's "jobs" arent exactly in a major threat here to begin with. instead, i'm saying we should improve america's immigration process so that it's possible to actually get through legally sooner than bloody 10-20 years and thousands and thousands of dollars. we're basically incentivizing illegal immigration by making the process of legal immigration impossibly difficult.

moreover, the job market does not suddenly "oversaturate" by introducing a ton of new immigrants. those people need places to stay, need to eat, need clothes, need need need. that's called demand. that's called consumers. when you have population growth, thats called, you guessed it, new markets. new markets means new opportunities, and thus, more job openings. this isn't just new jobs at existing stores either - immigrants have their own interests and wants due to their own cultural influences. people from mexico have their own tastes in food, their own brands from mexico they might miss, and that means new stores, new jobs where none existed before, and so forth. likewise with immigrants from other countries. immigration is not a negative. it's fresh new ideas from around the world, fresh new genes from other countries, and a fresh injection of art and culture to inspire your own to new heights.

I'm sorry, but bringing in a bunch of poor, unskilled and uneducated workers doesn't create economic prosperity for the US working class, it only benefits the very rich. It's been that way for the entire history of the US. Again, peasants consuming basic needs doesn't create economic prosperity for the working class. The US has seen real wages decline for the past 40-50 years, that's due to globalization, immigration and technology gains. A tighter labor market creates higher wages, it's simple supply and demand at play.

I'll tell you what, when the US worker sees 10-20 years of real wage gains, then we can start talking about increasing immigration into the US. Until that happens, I don't want to hear about it unless that immigrant has a special skillset/education.

I agree.  Should be left up to the States as their is a massive dynamic.  Say compared to Seattle and Salt Lake City and I have lived in both and get it.  It wouldn't work.

I could go on about it but it is not going to happen which is fine.  God, feel like I am in College again needing to write a paper with footnotes.  So glad my student loan is done with.

Also, nickles are almost worth their face value in melt value.

Nickles are the currency of the future.

Yes- and pennies- I JUST* now got a box of $25 pennies from the bank. I sort through them while watching movies and pick out the copper ones.

I have quite the collection of wheat pennies and even found 1 indian head.

Also- I look for errors... I found a 1999 WIde AM cent coin- sent it to PGS to be graded and authenticated- and then sold it on ebay for $400... it was MS 65+ I don't recall how high the MS was.

$400 for a penny that I got from the bank. LOL

I agree on the nickle thing too- but pennies are more lucrative because they are now worth TWICE face value.

Picked up a box of pennies at the bank today.I tried to get a box of nickles too, but they didn't have it to spare because I guess the nickle truck didn't come in last week because of the snow.

I'm going to stash away 10 boxes of each. That'll be $1000 in nickles and $250 in pennies. I keep $2500 cash on hand for emergencies. I'mma convert the other $1250 over to ones and fives.
