Reishi tek

Hey there, i did some searching around, and i really couldnt find a nice Reishi tek.....

ive seen plenty of nice growlogs in my searches, but noone really outlined the conditions required, or the substrate forumla (the ones ive read were quite vague)

all the other teks ive read on the web were for commercial production, and i really cant afford that....

what are the humidity/temp requirements?
are they that much diffrent from cubies? or pan-cyans?


oh i have 1 more question.....
ive noticed that most edibles come with a mycellum syringe, not a spore print...
is it hard to get a print from a reishi?
if i kept using mycellum syringes, wouldnt the mycellum eventually tire out?
dont they eventually need a multispore innoculation?
what about long term storage? i know mycellum can last for months in the fridge, but what about years?
sorry for my ignorance, but this is new to me (Reishi)

Oooh OOohh ooh, 2 more questions,
what are teh best wood chips to use? i went looking online and i found a bunch available for smoking/BBQ
and as far as sawdust is concerned all i could find so far was "hickory" sawdust.. is that usable?

Substrate formula is detailed. As are the conditions, but I will go over them here anyways.

I recommend working from a mycelium syringe, and injecting that directly into sterilized quart jars of substrate. After that, let incubate 65-75 farenheit until complete colonization. Then take the lids of the quart jars off, and put in a large terrarium. My terrarium consists of a tupperware container (THATS IT! no perlite, no nothing. just a tupperware plain and simple)

DO NOT SPRAY like you would a casing/your terrarium. I have found that spraying the terrarium/quart jars does nothing but cause contamination. Pins/conks/antlers will form at room temperature, anywhere from about 65f to 85f. (well within room temperature)


So basically, its easy to grow as mushrooms get, IMO.
Innoculate, Incubate (at room temp), Take off lids and place into terrarium, forget about it (at room temp as well). Look in some weeks later and you will have reishi antlers growing.

That's all there is to it. Really.


Yes, its moderately difficult to get reishi to sporulate indoors. This relates directly to the amount of carbon dioxide in the terrarium, so if you want spores, its best to do some air exchanges during the day (2-3).

As far as your question about the proper wood to use, I've found that reishi will grow on just about any kind of hardwood. If you want optimum growth, use chips from any Maple tree. Im assuming that reishi would fruit well off Hickory chips/dust.

From what I have read the best substrate to use is 50/50 white oak sawdust and chips supplemented 20% by dry weight. The most common supplements are wheat bran and millet as they are cheap in bulk. But I would think that BRF would work even better, as mycelium goes crazy over it reguardless of what type of mushroom it is. I have seen pictures of shiitakes growing off straight PF cakes with in a month, which were innoculated with a few spawn dowel rods.
