Reishi - ice tea
    #4557929 - 08/20/05 07:31 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I was looking for a use of my last grow of Reishi. During these hot summer months I am not in the mood to drink hot reishi tea on a daily basis. Instead I decided to prepare some Reishi ice cubes for ice tea and tonic.

What you need:
- Fresh or dried Reishi
- A tray to make ice cubes
- Scale
- pot
- Freezer

A daily portion of reishi would be equivalent to 3 to 5 grams of Reishi. Unfortunately I was never able to develop nice Reishi conks. I decided to prepare daily portions of 5 grams.

I had a tray to make 14 ice cubes. Next I measured 70 grams of dried Reishi and cut it into small pieces. The Reishi was boiled in a pot for 2 to 3 hours, taking care that the amount of liquid would fit in the ice cube tray. The tea was strained and pored in the tray to cool. The remaining pieces of reishi were discarded.

Put in the freezer for 5 hours and voila a set of 14 daily portions of reishi..

I like to put a cube in a glass of water together with a tablespoon of honey.

Wow man, that is amazing!

I must try that sometime. I know a few places where reishi grows.

But seriously man, that is a very awesome idea.

How is the taste? Also, what does it do for you?

The tea tastes very bitter but one cube dissolved in a glass of water actually tastes quite nice.

Reishi has various medicinal properties, including modulating blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, and stimulating and regulating the immune system. www.mushworld.com has lots of information on the medicinal properties of Reishi.

i am able to stomach a strong glass of reishi tea, like downing jager or something, you just do it. but the bitter flavor mixes nicely with cofee, similar. I used to eat them raw, but i think i may have gotten parasites. my arm has been itching terribly for weeks now. so now i am sure to boil them and drink the tea. I found a greenish beetle husk protruding from the underside of one after boiling it, like the mushroom grew around the beetle. bugs are cool to look at, but having them inside you is a bad trip.
