A request. For all of those who seem to be anti heat source/incubation * 2
    #26257678 -

I am a noob. Not been on this site very long.

But basically all I've had since I've been here is "you don't need heat." "You don't need incubator"

Have any of you actually considered I and others live IN A COLD BLOODY COUNTRY THAT ISN'T THE USA?!

SO I request, before you post "you don't need heat" try asking the poster if they live in a cold country or better yet the fact they are asking is likely because of that. So ladies and gentlemen (it's been pretty much only gentlemen that say it so far) please just remember some people DO NEED HEAT AND YOU TELLING THEM THEY DON'T DOENST HELP. SO EITHER GIVE HELPFUL SOLUTIONS OR KEEP YOUR THOUGHTS TO YOURSELF REGARDING ANOTHER USERS NEED FOR HEAT

You sound awfully upset about it. Why don't you just do whatever you want without seeking permission first, tell us how it worked out for you. The best thing for any grower to do is to make attempts at growing using trusted methods, through trial and error you will find what works best for you in your environment.

Most people will argue heat the environment not your grow.

If your comfortable in your home, most cubes will be as well.

So instead of that incubator directly below your jars, just turn up the thermostat or what I did was get an inexpensive space heater.

He seems pretty hell bent on an incubator.
I live in a cold ass country that's not the U.S, my house is always plenty warm. Even if one was to live in Siberia and heat their house with a wood stove you still wouldn't need an incubator.

Sometimes it's best to just take the time to run the project even if it fails just so that you know first hand through experience why something has taken place.

Build an incubator, see what happens.

And nobody will ever tell you that you don't need heat, your environment needs to be within growing parameters.  What people will tell you (as mentioned above) is that directly heating substrate provides an environment that encourages bacterial growth.

He? Sigh I'm a woman. I have a cold ass house As Well as a cold ass country. You just proved my point yet again. You guys just make assumptions without asking the poster.

I came to this site to ask for help. I repeatedly state the temperature inside my apartment and it's not warm enough. Yes I'm upset because I came here for help and no one is really answering my questions for heat.
A couple of great members here have kindly offered a couple of solutions like day light bulb 6500k  and I greatly appreciate all the helpful things people send.

But I have had SO DAMN MANY people just say you don't need heat you don't need incubator if you're comfortable the shrooms will be.... well in the apartment it is NOT WARM 15°c or less so we wear warm clothes.

I live in Scotland. Didn't exactly want to say that. But here we are. I live in a cold house in a cold country and all I wanted was some kind suggestions of heat since I can't really heat the room it's in. Out to g on the heating costs so bloody much here guys. I don't have that cash. So I've been trying and repeatedly asking and stating temperatures in the hope I'd get some actual help. But being honest this isn't the most welcoming place for a noob. Especially one that knows the environment in which they live.

I appreciate every single person that offered helpful advice.

But being told "you don't need this" REPEATEDLY when you actually do is fucking rediculous and doesn't help anyone.

So many people have told me I don't need heat. As in I don't need to heat the grow space etc if I can wear just a t shirt.

Look I am sorry for the attitude I am just so fucking frustrated at being repeatedly told I don't need an incubator or heat source when I really do.

Is it wrong for me to just want people to read what I wrote and not just instantly make assumptions about my living and growing situation?!

Thank you. I appreciate this. Eventually I might be able to get a space heater. Just I've been trying to remedy this situation best I can with what I have already which was a bunch of boxes and an aquarium heater.

It's just been s0o frustrating. I do realise it's better to heat the space and not the grow. But right now all things considered I sort of need to do it the other way round and I guess I'd just hoped more members would make less assumptions about a noob.
All I wanted from being here was help like this gentleman just tried to offer.

If you had read carefully you would have been able to glean all of the information you need, ma'am.

1. If you have a cold house buy a space heater because your immediate environment needs to be warm enough for the mycelium to grow.

2. If you heat your substrate directly, which is what happens in an incubator, you will create an environment that is better suited to bacteria than to mycelium.

Buy an inexpensive space heater to warm whatever room you've chosen for growing. It's pretty easy, no need to rant. None of this advice is ridiculous.

You don't need an incubator, sorry but it's true.

Why ask a question you already know the answer to?

Build the incubator.  See if it helps you.  Not much more to it really.

:whathesaid: if you don't believe us that's fine, build an incubator and then you can come back and yell about why your jars stalled and won't colonize.

I built an incubator when I was a noob, I wouldn't listen to anyone because my mud room was cold and I just knew that an incubator would help, it didn't. Bacterial jars that only partially colonized. This is what to expect. Good luck.

Edit* 15c isn't that cold, you could probably get away with that temp for spawn run, your jars will be a couple of degrees warmer on the inside, colonization times will be longer but far more ideal than growing in an incubator.

When you spawn the same will apply, it will be 2 or 3 deg warmer in the tub plus the heat from your light. Try both and compare notes.

Ok I read back and I really do apologies for my attitude in this post.

I've just not quite found so far apart from a couple of people, the help that I needed. I just so badly do not want to fuck up. It's not about being hell bent on an incubator  or anything Like that...... I just don't have a warm house. We are always wrapped up. ..... But if the MODS see fit they can delete this post. It doesn't really matter what I say anywhere. Only one or 2 will actually read it and realise these things. No one will ask to make sure they are offering the most relevant help to some noobs.

But to those of you who do actually give a bit of thought before you answer someone's questions I appreciate all of you.

Apologies for my attitude. .......its a bad day

My incubator is working just fine. My 1st cake is fully colonised. I have 6 more just started

I didn't realise it was bad for a noob to want to be sure with what they are doing.

I did build one. T works. Yet still had people tell me "don't need incubator" when I'm just sharing my progress.

I get it if I just show a thing. Not once has anyone really been like ok well you're doing pretty good for a noob, I'd maybe change this aspect or that aspect but your not doing bad.

Basically all I've had is people telling me what they think I'm doing wrong when that's not what I ask.

My impression is that incubators are discouraged because most of the time they are poorly implemented by noobs and just cause problems. Case in point: you're a noob talking about incubators.

I did a lot of research on contemporary methods and then made the informed decision that I could use an incubator. I was a noob and I built one for BRF jars as a stopgap because the grow space easily and frequently drops below 10°C in the cool season. It worked for me, I got results, then the weather got warm and it wasn't needed.

I did not cry to the forum about people with good reason saying not to do it.

I am taking notes for this. A friend basically told me to start on BRF cakes. I will note anything I can use and this for sure I will note for trying grain spawn.

I really appreciate this info. I know 15 May not be that low but I'm trying to do GT and everywhere I look seems to need between 20°C and 26°C for ideal GT temps. So I've been trying to aim for that sort of range as when I started that 1st jar it just wouldn't budge but the myc took off once it had a little more heat. And that was back.when it was 18°C :/

Can you be more specific with the bacterial comment? I have been very curious about these Petri. 3 (black taped) were not done in a SAB but the white taped ones were. I squirted too much spore by accident into one but I am captivated by whatever the growth is.

I didn't mean to give the wrong impression I am usually very open to answers I will apologies that I got a bit frustrated with being told the same things over a few times.

It can be very tedious when a lot of replies are the same. But I really am here to learn!

Thank you. And yes I do realise the error of my decision to make a post out of frustration for this reason lol. Oops.
And for sure in the summer I likely wouldn't need the incubator at all. If I'd started earlier in the year I wouldn't have had such an issue.
