Did you read my earlier posts in the thread? I outlined it with clarity.

I'm no fan of the street violence, but I can see that there are situations where it can be necessary, such as to stop a fascist attack.

That said, on the street I feel safe walking among Antifascists. I do not at all feel safe walking among fascists. Antifascists are there for MY safety. To protect ME from attack by bigots, fascist, white nationalist and the like. If I'm under attack by bigots, sure, kick them a hernia if thats what it takes. If they as a group surround an elderly muslim lady and rip off her headscarf and push her around making pig noises, sure, stop them from doing that.

I'm in favor of peaceful demonstration and other peaceful and fair means to halt and drive back the advance of fascism, which currently is on the rise.

I'm against violence, but sometimes it can be necessary, such as to stop an ongoing attack.

Antifa is being demonized in the American press. You are having a Klan endorsed president. You are having a president carried on the shoulders of the white nationalist movement. You are having a president who shares white supremacist memes on twitter. Your nation is moving towards fascism and the early steps of that are to discredit antifascism, making it appear suspect and unjust.

Sure there are violent idiots using Antifa as a false flag to pick fights. But that's not what antifascism is about. What's fascism about again? Antifa opposes that.

Right?  Wow whenever white nationalist defending corporate media talk about liberal antifa it’s bad who would have guessed.

The whole ‘antifa is violent’ schtick is pushed by white nationalist media as justification for future mass murders. Oh yeah remember how white nationalists have committed real not imagined murder?  News is setting the stage to be able to run the headline “lonewolf white nationalist kills 20, antifa violence to blame?” “How antifa drove a good man to murder 20” Etc.

I oppose any group that uses violence or that advocates for the use of violence. Unfortunately that includes antifa. I wish it didn't, but I've had antifa members directly advocate their use of violence to me. I think antifa, and all groups that use or advocate violence, should be banned.

You can have a good goal, like being against nazis, and you can pursue that goal in an immoral manner, and that's still wrong even if your goal was good.

Just to clarify a bit, if someone hits you at a protest, I think hitting them back is wrong. In general, you should never respond to violence with violence.

By going to protests you should be willing to take on the burden of pain and suffering yourself rather than inflicting it on others. It is more morally right to do so, it reflects more positively on the things you believe, it is more persuasive, it is more effective, and it allows you to use moral means to achieve moral ends. In the process you stop the spread of violence rather than spreading it yourself.

MLK used to ask every single person who was going to be at a protest "can you take a blow without retaliating?" and he was dead serious.
