A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life * 2
    #26172383 -

I've been reading the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra the last few days and wanted to share. It's a really beautiful short text on how to cultivate Bodhicitta (Awakening Mind). There are a few different translations and commentaries around, but this is the one I read.

--------------------
Love is from the infinite, and will remain until eternity.
The seeker of love escapes the chains of birth and death.
Tomorrow, when resurrection comes,
The heart that is not in love will fail the test.
~ Rumi

The day we start giving Love instead of seeking Love, we will have re-written our whole destiny.

Yeah it definitely seems like a good one to come back to again and again...I might try stapling it to my forehead, might make me less forgetful

I like this quote that's mentioned in the article link. An "inner smile". I love that!

“In ancient China, the Taoists taught that a constant inner smile to oneself, insured health, happiness and longevity. Why? Smiling to yourself is like basking in love: you become your own best friend. Living with an inner smile is to live in harmony with yourself.”

Mantak Chia

Though it's the only translation/commentary I read of the Way of the Bodhisattva, I highly recommend "No Time To Lose" by Pema Chodron, it's a less scholarly commentary and more on the practical essence of this wonderful scripture, i've read many times over, she leaves out the 9th chapter on wisdom and says in the book she saving it for a work on it's own because emptiness is a difficult subject to fit in short length with the rest of the book, she has yet to release it, which I hope she does soon, life is short.

this was gonna be my signature here:

Quote:
Strive at first to meditate
Upon the sameness of yourself and others.
In joy and sorrow all are equal.
Thus be guardian of all, as of yourself.

Bodhicharyavatara 8.90

I like the 6th chapter, patience being the antidote to anger is helpful advice.

--------------------
"He who finds peace and joy
And radiance within himself
That man becomes one with God
And vanishes into God's bliss."

-Bhagavad Gita, 5.24

Ah now you mention it, I do remember seeing that Pema Chodron had done a commentary on it. Good to know you found it useful. I will see if I can get hold of it. Thanks for the recommendation! Love that quote by the way
