I think we’ve reached the point where the the lack of reason coming from the right warrants the complete revocation of the second ammendment. It’s an anachronism that deserves to be in the dustbin of historical mistakes to be learned from.

It shouldn't be all about you and "them" it should be about trying to find any kind of compromise that will specifically reduce the capability of people that can let off 50+ rounds in under a minute or two anywhere in America with very big hardly treatable wounds from those specific types of bullets. M4 and AR15s  are INCREDIBLY accurate at mid to long ranges which just isn't the case with handguns or shotguns.

I've always been clear that handguns shotguns and hunting rifles have their legal place. So why would I try and take all the guns away? If they tried that I'd stand with you but you're talking about stopping something completely hypothetical and I'm begging you and everyone in that school of thought to listen to the possibility of trying something proactive to make a difference.

Really? Because you are the one suggesting we live in the past. I just showed you your fallacy and now I'm a fetishist. Classic koods, I'm a pervert so ignore what I say. Amazing strawman attack there, all you undermine is your own argument with shit like that.

The point I made was that the time an amendment was written does not determine when it applies to.

Hunting rifles are extremely accurate at long ranges, and one of the only kinds of weapon to assassinate a president. And as koods will not stop saying "take'em all!" so it makes it hard to believe that "some guns" is all you want gone. If you give a mouse a cookie, kinda deal.

AR-15's use a 223. calibre projectile, slightly larger than a 22. has poor fragmentation qualities.

"Fragmentation, if and when it occurs, imparts much greater damage to human tissue than bullet dimensions and velocities would suggest. This fragmentation effect is highly dependent on velocity, and therefore barrel length: short-barreled carbines generate less muzzle velocity and therefore lose wounding effectiveness at much shorter ranges than longer-barreled rifles."

There has been much debate of the allegedly poor performance of the bullet on target in regard to stopping power, lethality, and range. Some of this criticism has been used to advocate an intermediate-sized cartridge between the 5.56 and 7.62 NATO sizes while criticisms of poor barrier penetration, and accuracy have been used to support the M855A1 EPR round.[36] Arguably, the criticisms about range, accuracy and lethality are related to the change in barrel length and twist between the M16 and M4. The earlier 5.56 rounds (M855/SS109 and the original M193) were optimized for a 20-inch (51 cm) barrel with a 1:12 twist. The shorter 14.5-inch (37 cm) barrel of the M4 carbine (with a 1:7 twist) generates lower muzzle velocity, reducing the likelihood that the bullet will upset (yaw, fragment, or expand) in the target and resulting in less significant wounds.

Just read koods' posts in this thread

I'm not interested in negotiating rights away because criminals have been going on rampages and you think it will stop at the AR-15 and AK variant, yet multiple people have sat here saying they want it to go further, much further.  Nope.

If you disagree with them, you're called names like gun nut, backwards, or gun fetishest.

These people are mods too, it's clearly disrespectful, yet I don't care personally because their opinions are worthless and I have been contacted by other shroomery mods regarding Koods' behavior over time and how he gets a pass and I am unsure why.  Watch him ban me for talking about private messages next, that would be icing on the cake

Do none of you guys that insist on sticking doggedly to a law that was enacted hundreds of years ago ever feel like you might be holding back human progress and evolution a little?

Like, I get the whole 'they can't fuck with my rights' thing, but does it never occur to you that being so rigid is counterproductive?

If you think a government with china-like surveillance and control is the future then yea I'm all about pushing against evolution, my ape ass would live in a tree to stop that.
Discussing what you're saying there belongs in philosophy and religion tags. As I feel it is foolish to think holding onto a piece of metal could stop evolution/the natural order.

Not in the slightest. A populous that wasn't so suspicious of one another or so overly concerned with defending themselves against one another and being able to hurt/kill each other would probably be a step forward in evolutionary terms though, right?

Zyiadem said:

It's hardly 'a piece of metal' that we're discussing. We're talking about a deadly machine designed for no other reason than to kill from a distance. See above for why allowing everyone to have one might stop evolution/the natural order.

Fiery said:

Gross oversimplification. Hardly any criminals have them, and lots of police do - just not every cop - special units only. Bloody quick response time too, I've had them called on me before.

I guess the main difference is that I see is 393,347,000 firearms and less than 1% of them doing crime is a pretty major win; Couple that with a 3 year period (Between 1987 and 1990) that 258,460 crimes were averted by citizens with guns with only "28% of incidents where a gun was used for self-defense, victims fired the gun at the offender." Meaning that a gun is not just for killing but stopping crime without firing a shot.

I covered this earlier beard.

You shouldn't trust anyone you don't share space and a significant amount of time with. Humans have a very limited ability to see other humans as "human" The same reason why "Karens" are so brutal to retail workers and sociopaths are so successful. They simply see them as a means to an end.

Violence is real and safety is an illusion, History has been violent and I do not foresee that changing. I live in the reality we have and feel it is more important to see it as such rather than some utopic dreamland that already has trans rights, perfect equality, no violence and no pedophiles running countries.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree at this point; I take the opposite stance - I trust by default - and it's never done me wrong, the world over. In fact I'd say that my life is all the richer for it. I completely disagree about humans having a limited ability to see each other as equals, but I guess I didn't grow up in your shoes so maybe that's how you were treated by others.

Either way, it's been fun, and I appreciate you engaging and taking the time to parley with me.

This is exactly the totally unreasonable position I’m taking about. The right to own a firearm is not necessary for freedom. It is a handicap for freedom. It certainly doesn’t prevent tyranny as evidenced by the number of citizens murdered by the police every year. Extrajudicial killing by the state is literally a defining characteristic of tyranny and the second ammendment not only does nothing to prevent it, it is the cause of it - the police shoot first because this country is awash with guns.

What shit is this? Mate, if someone came into a small enclosed space (as per Asante's example above) with a bolt action rifle and loosed a round at someone, you can bet I'd be trying to tear their fucking face off the first time they went to reload.

They wouldn't stand even a tiny chance if they were carrying some muzzle loaded, circa 1776 rifle; people would mob the cunt in a shot.

I don't own a gun so it's not like I'm some big gun guy, and I do get the belief (or hope rather) that making guns more difficult to obtain would have some level of positive effect, but still, I really don't see how this would at all affect the ones who are determined hell or high water to have them. I'm talking street criminals -- people who make a living robbing & stealing shit, gang members, corner dealers. As bad as the mass shootings are the number of deaths that result in those pale in comparison to where most of the shootings come from in this country, and that's through common street crimes & criminals.

Banning or heavily regulating guns will NOT stop them from obtaining them.

There was a war on drugs and did that stop drugs from flooding into the country and being sold? We banned alcohol once and did that stop people from drinking?

Heavily regulate them all you want but those who want them will still get them. All the street hustlers will still have them.

Call me a pessimist but I don't see any aspiring gangbangers saying, "aw shucks, you know what gun control is pretty strict, guess I'm just going to go to college and become a banker now"

Look I get the thought behind it and the wish to have a gun violence free country. I want that too. I just don't think it would do anything...at all to be honest. You can put up all the roadblocks in the world via modifying the laws and/or constitution but guns aren't going to all of a sudden disappear.

These mass shooters are killing complete innocents though. Women. Kids.

That shit just aint on. It needs fixing.
