Immediate help Identifying please, poisonous?
    #26165116 -

Hi, we've been having heavy rains lately and mushrooms of all species have been popping up in the yard.  I've been removing them as the pop up so my dogs don't eat them.  I saw my mother in law's dog eating what looked like grass, and saw pieces of this mushroom cap where he was munching.  Can anyone ID this as safe or not?

Can we get a picture of a full mushroom body? Cap gills and stem with a spore print would be the best for an ID request. I would just keep an eye on the dog. He will probably be fine!
Do try to post some more pics tho.
Hope all is well

I wish I had more but this was all that was left.  Those two pieces are about the size of a nickel each and looks to be 2/3 of the cap.  I didn’t see any stem pieces.  Been 4 hours and nothing noticeable.

The pics are too small for identification, but you would get better help if you contacted the Facebook group Poisons Help; Emergency Identification For Mushrooms & Plants to be honest. Could you provide better pics? Are there any more intact mushrooms around that look like this? Compare with Russula species, are the gills brittle?

The gills are very soft and collapse when touched.  These are the only remnants I found unfortunately.  The cape is a caramel color and the underneath is white gills.  The part where the stem meets the cap is very spongy and white.  Don’t know if any of that helps.  Still no symptoms of anything from the dog.  I understand that most mushrooms growing in gardens are extremely toxic so I don’t want to freak out and go to the vet ER on Labor Day when there are no symptoms.

this is not true, most mushrooms are totally harmless and many more 'toxic' mushrooms are likely to just give you a bad stomach ache. It is true that there are deadly  mushrooms so it is very important to be safe,  and get an ID if possible, but your statement is incorrect.

Also all that is based on human anatomy I have no idea about dogs. I did find this if it is helpful as you may recognize a mushroom you have seen in your yard here. Best of luck I would guess everything will be fine with your pup, but I have a dog I love and know how scary this can be.

Holy shit thanks bro, I just uploaded better quality photos there and got several immediate responses concurring that it is russula.  Thanks for the hook up!

Whoops, typo on my end.  I meant to type “aren’t.”  Thanks for the link, I’ve been sweating this all day, watching every move he makes. FIL was just discharged from the hospital two days ago and this is the last thing we need.

My Pleasure! Just saw your pics on facebook, definitely Russula sp. There are no seriously toxic Russula species, maybe some gastrointestinal upset, but there only appears to be a small amount ingested so I would be surprised if there are any symptoms. Your dog will be fine!

Yes, but not deadly, and with the small amount ingested nothing to worry about.

Thanks again.  It’s been almost 12 hours now, and still he’s not showing signs of anything.  Taken him potty.  Stools are solid and he ate dinner with no appetite issues.  I went on Google and lost my damn mind looking at pictures and articles, convinced this was the most deadly mushroom on earth.

I can’t figure out how to post pictures on mobile.  I think the size is too big and I don’t know how to reduce quality on my iPhone..  I’ll post some tomorrow when I’m back on the computer.  He had some loose stool this morning; not explosive diarrhea or anything, but definitely not solid.  He did it out in the yard so obviously not uncontrollable.  No appetite issues, demeanor change or vomit.

He had loose stool again last night, then an explosive poo this morning.  Sounds like he's got bubble guts too.  We are now at almost 48 hours.  No other symptoms and he's headed back with inlaws.  They came here to evacuate their place on the east coast due to the hurricane.  Here's a pic of him.

It sure did, and was for the Bahamas.  They got smacked hard.  I've never seen a storm like that stall out in the Atlantic, and it just punished those islands for almost 2 days.  It's weakened enough now that they're headed back home.  Down here, a Cat 2 is nothing to get worked up over unless you have a house in a storm surge area.  Up north, a Cat 1 is like Armageddon, lol.
