Did it?

I thought it was beautiful, one of the most beautiful things of its time.

Trust me I see it that way too it was beautiful and one of a kind and if I had a time machine I've ALWAYS said I'd go to Woodstock because it was an amazing love letter to the 60s, 99% of people there were there for community love for each other, music and psychedelic exploration.

Unfortunately however news stations (media) were filled with commentary of hippies being drug addixted, disgusting subhuman because they did psyches or were homosexual because in the 60s free love and psyches to those in power treated it like heroin. Not too long after Woodstock the hippie era collapsed essentially

That is true. That's what makes it so historical. But I don't think it changed anything. I mean people trashed that place, got super high, and good musicians played their music. I don't see how it could change anything that much but that it was certainly poetry in motion

I talked to Aminita about this. I’ve been to places music related and other. There has to be trash receptacles and plenty of them, AND they have to be dumped

They didn’t have enough food, water etc that was a failure but to say they trashed it... I can see your argument, I don’t agree that they intended to trash it.

They left their vehicles miles away and walked. It wasn’t intended

It legit changed lives, brought people together for life.

Maybe it didn’t change the world but they sure as hell tried! :crankey:

Yeah. Exactly. Hippies don't INTEND to do anything. They don't INTEND to never accomplish anything and sap off of other people's successes and create childish communes with no understanding of governing, management, or even basic survival skills. They just do, and then they want forgiveness and bailouts because their intentions were good.

I love the idea of peace and love and community. But at least the communists had an IDEA of what they were doing. Hippies are just fuckin morons who think they know better than thousands of years of humanity, and that somehow gallons of LSD will solve all the ills of mankind.

Trash. Peace sign

I couldn’t disagree with you more on everything you just said

Bailouts? What are you even saying? Is it fact based? Should they have brought their own trash cans?

3 days of peace and music, bring your own trash can? I don’t remember that part

I spent a lot of time with wooks in Colorado. Motherfuckers barely get their bills paid, then one day they leave for two weeks for some fuckin festival and are surprised they never have shit to show for their years on earth. They get high on so many things so often it erodes their minds and they become irrational, illogical, and oftentimes hostile. I saw a "nice hippie" scream at a guy because he THOUGHT he heard him talking shit, in a room full of people who told him that didn't happen. In fact most of those guys had bouts of extreme rage that seemingly goes against all of their holier-than-thou crap.

I'm not trying to attack you directly man. I used to think the hippies were amazing and had answers that society just wasn't ready to hear. People who actually change the world, doctors and charities and peacekeepers, don't blow $800 bucks on drugs and concert tickets for an experience that lasts 3 days when they have a kid that needs a backpack and immunizations

You’re confusing what I’m trying to say here. I’m talking about 1969 not today and certainly not the people of today

The people of today don’t have half the courage to pull off anything like what they did

There’s asshole people all over the place and I think that’s pretty clear to everyone here.

What I am trying to say though is that they tried to change the world. And we just aren’t

And it’s showing really bad now. If all you see is trash, or some asshole or degenerate than that’s on you. That’s not all that happened because that’s like your opinion man

I think a meme is the perfect way to sum up how far we’ve disassociated ourselves from the original idea that was Woodstock

And one that pushes that stereotype is just magic

Sometimes ideas are just ideas. From what I've heard from old heads, hippies haven't changed. Think about it. From a societal perspective, the entire movement is drug addiction and vagrancy. What happens when people put themselves in those positions? I'm sure there are good apples like in any bunch, but if I pick up a bag of apples and most of them are shit, I'm not going to dig through it. I'm going to put it back, and try a different bag. The very idea of a hippy isn't tangible beyond a thin line that separates what is taking the lifestyle a little too seriously, and isn't.

Also, Woodstock wasn't about courage. The laws had changed not that long ago really. They were still in their zone as far as prohibition and enforcement goes. If we made booze illegal today, do you think every single cop would drop their shit and go, "Well fuck, I better arrest every god damn person I see intoxicated!" I doubt that. Whereas today, the drug war has been in full swing for generations. It would take multitudes more balls to pull of an exact replica of Woodstock today than it did then, and furthermore it's still happening. What exactly are people doing at festivals? I can't imagine every single person at Woodstock was on LSD, let alone were sure it was LSD they were taking.

No I say give it 20-30 years and there will be more epic shit than 1969 could have dreamed of. I always wished I was born earlier but shit man you're in a psychedelic renaissance. Baby steps now but before you know it they're running full bore and you just can't keep up

I think everything has changed? Idk The movement is not drug addiction and vagrants

I never said it was about courage, I called them courageous, more courageous than we are today.

Im just a regular dude trying to learn from the past. At most I’d like to make my country a little bit better. But I’m scared to do anything real

I say give it 20-30 years and there will be more epic shit than 1969 could have dreamed of.

There will never be another woodstock like that one because of the politics, sentiment, the times, the way the world was, and so on. It's like the 80's were a very unique time politically and the way music was. It just can not be replicated due to the times changing and the way the world works/is. Change is inevitable and necessary for progress. People get comfy with things if they are all cushioned and things are going their way, when change is suggested or starts to happen they get all upset and say "not while I'm alive/in office" etc...

All the devout religious people, extreme left and right wingers, certain groups/cliques of people don't want things to change too much outside of what they want/their comfort zone. I do think that from world war 2 until the 2000's it was a very unique time for changes every decade. The 5 decades 50's-90's were very unique and will never happen in those ways again. Yes there will or may be "more epic shit than 1969 could ever dream of" but that will be due to the progress of the world and the human race as a whole. I could be wrong.

When I finally went to the haight ashbury place back in 2004 I think, there was a Gap and Starbucks on the corners, lol. I just laughed and thought all those "hippes" kind of "sold out" because it seemed to me those corporate places went against everything they seemed to despise. Then I realized it was all the "hippes" that owned everything and were running those businesses now.

Absolutely.

Different, but grander.

A place like the Shroomery is something beyond far out for the hippies of old. You could order LSD from Sandoz, yes, but there was no central information node where the whole world stopped by and exchanged manners of growing mushrooms.

A 12yo kid could grow more shrooms than (s)he can eat.
You didnt have that situation in the 60s.

The net is definitely changing human interaction and thereby changing the planet as a whole.

Relevant today:

Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
'Til there are no rich no more?
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you
Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, Monopoly
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you
World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you
