ID Request/Confirmation - Panaeolus cyanescens?

Hello denizens of Shroomery!

My name is Ben, and I have always had an interest in mushrooms.  Couple days ago I went to my local cow field (publicly accessible) because it has been raining every day for about 2 weeks.

I am 95% certain these are Panaeolus cyanescens, but I would like some help to gain experience.  This is an exercise in identification for me.

I have 4 individuals I would like help with!  Note, all their spores seemed identical under the microscope.  But their general morphology seemed variable; is this something to expect?

Habitat:
All these were found in a cow field growing on cow patties (central Florida)

Gills:
Mottled, gray/black

Stem:
Thin

Cap:
From 0.5" to 1" across - note look at my images of the underside, if you zoom in on where I broke the stem off, the remaining stem is bright blue

Spore print color:
Black

Bruising:
Greenish-blue, takes 1-2 hours to notice any bruising (is this typical?  any tricks to speed it up?)

Other information:
Smelled like mushrooms.

I will label each mushroom (or group) alphanumerically.

dde when you say it takes 1-2 hours to notice bruising...

ive been tossing and leaving shrooms that look exactly like these away because they dont bruise within a couple minutes.. i think its panaeolus antillarum

damn that would suck if ive been leaving good shrooms behind lol

gwar, yes, none of the shrooms I collected bruised while we were still in the field.  Only did I notice it after I came back home, and that was at least 2 hours after collection.  I think severing the flesh with a knife may give a better reaction.  After I severed the caps from the stem, the blue color seemed to develop in the remaining stem fragment much more intensely, and perhaps more quickly.  The reaction is thought to be due to oxidation of psilocine, so physically severing the cells would help (as with a knife or pulling it apart), as opposed to just crushing them.

I found some P. antillarum, too, I think, and they don't bruise at all.  Also, they seem to be much larger than the cyanescens.

Indeed, I noticed this delayed bruising effect before with mushrooms like these. My companion mentioned she saw videos where Psilocybe mushrooms appeared to bruise within minutes.  I believe it's variable for each species.


Yours look like Panaeolus for sure.  Yes, give them some time to bruise, and you may be surprised!

Here they all are, about 0.8g (8g fresh).



Indeed, they do contain psilocybine. . .
