Absolutely Asante. I love this site. I love it for what it's purpose is: sharing information and helping each other out with our love of all things fungi. Besides that, I like that there are threads with jokes, world issues, news, science, and even some political discussion.

But...despite the fact that the site seems primarily devoted to hallucinogenic mushrooms, which tend to help people be more mindful, in touch with their emotions, loving, caring, rewire their brains and heal from PTSD or depression, etc, there are a LOT of people here that seem to act in ways that are unnecessarily harsh, cruel, and just plain negative. 

I don't do FB or any other social media and never have because I knew the whole social media thing was not going to be good for society in many ways even back when Myspace was the hot thing.  This is the closest thing to what I want in an online community and at times, I don't even come here because of all the negativity.  I remember thinking when I first found the shroomery that THIS will be the place where people I can get along with will be and it won't have all of the bullying, negativity, and nastiness that permeates the rest of the interweb...boy I was wrong.

I've recently watched new members post questions or other things and seen other members completely jump their ass for nothing.  I make it a point to try and check a few days later if the new member had posted anything else, and most of the time, they haven't.  So no, I wouldn't be surprised if traffic is down and new members are being ran off by people that must think they own the place just because they have a lot of posts or know more than a complete noob.

I know some say people are just being too sensitive. But, maybe those are the people that are being too insensitive. If I want to joke or tease with a friend in "real life", that friend knows we're friends and it's ok because there is context to the relationship.  Someone stranger talking trash on a message board isn't going to be perceived the same way.

I don't have the answers to these problems, but I sure hope this place can be what it could be because I think it has a lot of value and potential.

I remember when I had this exact same realisation about the place. I'd put it up on a pedestal and it crushed me when it came falling off of it. 

Still here though, and I'm not gonna leave because my expectations were unrealistic. I love this place with all my heart, and that means being in it for the long haul, good or bad.

Fact is, people are people. There's no gathering of humans in the world that will ever be an exception for that rule. I think the responsibility, ultimately, falls to each and every one of us to not let that break our faith and passion in the thing we love. Ideally we'll all be as kind as possible too but there's always gonna be times when we each fall short of that.

We're a community, no matter what. All we can do is our best.

Dex is pretty sweet. It's easy. ICW makes me think of ICP and I tend to avoid things that do that.

Anyway dex, you're always a positive uplifting poster. I think you contribute just by doing that.

Yellow pages? They still deliver them round here. Not only is it a fucking waste of paper, they are wrapped in plastic because they just get left at your door weather you want it or not. Fuck you yellow pages :megacrankey:

Freezy only hates me because I didn't show him enough man love (at least, this is what I think). We hugged plenty and shit but I get the impression he wanted me to sneak in and molest him when he had me over at his house on the final night of the last AZ one.
