back when i was in 'Nam i would always hear stories from the fresh meat about how they couldn't believe that they got to see Alaska on the way.  Feels like a lifetime has gone by since i was in country.  We lost a lot of good men when the whole platoon went up in Da Nang...Johnston, Digiaccomo, Espinoza, Stanton, Hernandez, Snap, Crackle, Popp... :nonono:

Hawaii isn’t on the way to japan.





The coolest actual real commercial flight is New York to Singapore. It goes directly over the North Pole

I would think the North Pole is not  a reliable route. There are times during high solar activity when that route May be too dangerous.

Russia is closer to the pole so its size is more exaggerated than the US.

Africa gets the worst deal with the map.

Get a globe and a piece of string and try to make the shortest path

Also airlines traveling long distances over remote areas and water often don't follow the shortest path. Rather they follow a slightly safer path

Russia is huge, but like koods said its size is exaggerated because it's closer to the poles (on a standard map like Google maps app). Still very big thou
