6500K or 5000K
    #26013560 -

For cacti, what type of indoor lighting would be better, 5,000K CFL or 6,500K CFL?

I swapped to 5000K during a grafting competition when a bulb needed replacing and it was all I had to hand, and I managed my fastest loph from sowing to flower under it. How they would have fared under the 6400K in comparison to the 5000K I don't know, but everything under it seemed happy.

The difference between 5000K and 6500K is not *huge* but yeah for flowering I would always use a warmer spectrum although it may not be such a decisive factor but contributing. However as you know the warmer the spectrum is the more elongated cacti may get. Not talking the true stretching from red vs deep red light but still with red vs blue you don't get the same modes of growth. (more primary vs more secondary growth iirc?)

I think just very bright desert-like conditions should mostly help cacti to flower, but maybe do also simulate the seasons before it, for a more concrete trigger..

Not speaking from experience [yet].

nice time lapse and button!

Are trichocereus supposed to flower at a particular time of year?  You could probably make a more or less SWAG based on what angle of incidence you'd expect sunlight to come through at.

I also think the difference between 5000 and 6500K is quite small.
If i was to raise cacti from seed i would choose the 6500K but i dont think it matters that much.

Yes, I agree.

It is a bit of a sacrifice perhaps, since through red light photosynthesis is more effective? But as said, colder more blue spectra would be better for stocky growth of plants in general while warmer more red spectra would be more suited for flowering, or so it would appear.

I use cold white fluorescent lighting for my cactus seedlings.

But I also do have some warm spectrum LED lights so when the time comes I will try to use them for flowering. I may need better lights at some point...

Resized and cropped this makes the perfect addition to the greamlin panel as :peyotl: or a nifty name like that.

It does honor to this sacred cactus.

Would you be OK with that?

 feel free to do what you like with it.
This version has the last frame with the flower duplicated a few times so it lasts longer
