question on pasteurizing sawdust. Please help

Ok so the question isn't really about pasteurizing, but more on if you can expand your mycelium this way. For example I do grain to start with for blue oyster and reishi, then I pasteurize my sawdust and transfer my grain into about 6 more bags and let that run. Now from here can I transfer the pasteurized sawdust after its fully colonized into more pasteurized sawdust like you can G2g? I know oyster isn't a secondary decomposer therefor it doesnt break down lignin? So does it need grain as well, leaving me with less grain in the formula when I transfer the pasteurized sawdust into more pasteurized sawdust.... Idk if this making any sense but let me know if you get the question.

I'm pretty sure that you can treat the colonized sawdust as spawn. I think commercial growers do this to reduce expense and as a way to bulk up a lot of spawn quickly. Do a search for sawdust spawn. In theory you can use a substrate that the mushroom won't necessarily fruit on for spawn and spawn it to it's d fruiting substrate.

You can use the sawdust to expand more sawdust. But you might get smaller flushes. The grain also provides nutrients. I believe it will take longer using the sawdust spawn. Because you will not have as many inoculation points.

Well thank you, should I supplement in some coffee grounds? Sense its you I will tell ya what I'm doing, I work at a nursery and they asked me for grow your own mushroom bags. The strains I have are, blue oyster, pink oyster, shiitake, reishi, and last but not least lions mane.

Or better yet second time around have it supplemented with bran? I would do straw for my oysters, I know RR recommends not doing it but I have had no problems for my first transfer so far...

When you say grow your own mushroom grow bags I think you are saying bags that other people can grow out right? I think I have talked to you b4 about this. You really want to give them the best chance of success. In my opinion, to do this you need to start with the best spawn ( genetics is everything) You want them to have monster mushrooms so they want to buy from you again. You would also want the best sub. The best sub for oysters is by far soybean hulls and hardwood fuel pellets. Soybean hulls and hardwood fuel pellets are also cheaper but may be harder to find. Surely worthy of the effort though. I personally would not supplement with coffee grounds or use sawdust spawn. It will be easier for you to use whole oats and (millet or wild birdseed) 50/50 by weight. The key to you being a success is to make them have a successful grow. For every person, you make have a successful grow it is like free advertising. They will be excited and tell all their friends about you and your service. If I was in your position. I would not do shiitake or lions mane. I would stick with oysters because they are so easy to grow. Then once you have people returning you can start to offer other varieties. they will then have a little experience and be able to attempt a more challenging mushroom. I have the spawn you need if you want to pay for the shipping PM me. I have (Aloha yellow) (Aloha elma) (Aloha Shiitake) and (Amycel 3015) I just harvested today and had fruits bigger than my head on the elma and 3015 they were huge!!

Can you get HWFP where you are? Straw is a pain and you are going to hate it trust me been there done that. Never again.

What do you need to know about the steamer? If you can't get HWFP I would try straw pellets if you can find them.

well Im trying to make a non electric one with a burner... Problem is it seems like all of it is over my head. I've seen one made with minimal welding and plumbers pipe. Yea mabey I can find straw pellets but I really do hate straw...

I would rethink doing a burner steamer. It is more expensive to run. You have to babysit it for about 14 hours every time you run it. But if you want a gas burner I would just buy the burner for about $130 if I remember correctly. But don't say I didn't tell you so!! With mine, I press a button and come back in 2 days (because it has to cool) unload and inoculate. I will help you build an electric one if you want. You will be much happier and not grow old watching it steam your bags.

Ok on second thought for shiitake I will definatly not be sawdust to sawdusting... I used to know so manyyyy ways to supplement but after being locked up for 4 years I don't remember shit... I will be hitting the books back up lol.

I have noooo electrical experience.... Do you have signal cuz this shroomery thing is a shit way to get ahold of people... My other friend pirate swazzy is who I usually consult via signal but he bought an electric one off of a website and I just dnt wanna spend 1800 on what he has... Actually I just don't have that right now... sooo teach away my friend.

Also side thought, I load my bags in my kitchen. I don't want the grains or sawfust to plug my shit so do you thinks its possible to dissconnect my pipe and put a ben below or have it feed to a 55 gallon barrel as grey water and have a pump on that that feeds drip irrigation into my garden... Super eco friendly and this way I wont have to worry about it clogging things.. I wanna do this for my washer as well.
