Spring in Mississippi, growing poppies. Details inside
    #25963875 - 04/30/19 05:50 AM (4 years, 10 months ago)

I live way out in the country. It’s humid. Gets real hot in the summer. Behind my house are two old abandoned houses in the woods. I’m thinking of growing poppies all inside the houses so no one finds them. I can run electricity from my house if need be but they are in a clearing and have windows so lots of light. They stay cooler than outside but it gets real hot in summer. Ideas, and advice please. Help me incision and brainstorm. Would I need an air conditioner? More light? Miracle grow or regular dirt or sand? Help me achieve my goal. Both have living room two bedrooms and kitchen etc. If need be I could tear down walls to open space to make it easier to control temp etc. How much water? We own this land and no one uses them they are in too bad of shape but still completely enclosed and I can do whatever work on them is necessary to make a grow setup. Growing poppies to supply myself without buying drugs is a major desire I’ve had for many years.

Till up some earth, toss out seeds in late fall/winter, thin&weed patch. Reap what you sow

Why not grow then inside the house you live in?

Tear the roof off one of the houses, it we be adequate light source, so no electricity. Then put boards with nails hammered upwards in all around as a deterrent for thugs... they grow in shitty conditions. As longs as the soil drains, they dont give a fuck.

I’m not worried about anyone bothering the house I don’t have any neighbors and they are right behind my house in thick woods. No one ever comes there.
The roof idea is a good one!

It's too late for you to start poppies this year. They need soil temps below 50f to germinate. I would wait until fall/beginning of winter to sow. They'll overwinter and grow bigger than if you sow them in the spring. Where I live (zone 7)poppies only survive until May then the heat kills them.
