1. The world won’t end. In 12 years time, the reality of not addressing carbon emissions will put the planet’s warming on autopilot, meaning even if we get our shit together in year 13, massive global damage will be irreparable. For example, saltwater fish will die out by 2040 on our current trajectory. Insects are experiencing mass die offs already. The damage to the ecosystem will have a domino effect leading to environmental disasters, starvation, drought, war, and a shitload of people dying. Sure there might be some rich assholes with orange groves in a bunker somewhere that will be fine, but the reality is that a vast majority of the world’s population (not to mention the plants and animals) will die. It’s that simple.

2. This is not AOC’s idea or claim, it’s a plethora of climate scientists and international climate organizations.

3. The Green New Deal is more of a jobs program to help the US transition away from fossil fuels, and boost the domestic economy while doing so. The Green New Deal could pass tomorrow and it would do little to mitigate the damage we’re doing. And obviously, the US is only one of 200 nations, climate change doesn’t care about borders.

4. The reason no action on climate change is happening, and why most Dems don’t support the GND is because of money. Our government is corrupt and the people in power are beholden to the interests of the wealthy. The wealthy make a killing off of fossil fuel. The wealthy don’t give a shit if the entire global south dies off. They don’t care if ecosystems collapse, they have the money and the power to make sure they themselves will be just fine.
