If there is some dangerous activity you could point out where people survive no matter the situation that would be interesting, but in those circumstances I feel they are differentiating themselves from 99% of people, so 99% of people wouldn't even be allowed to try it in the first place.

the goal is not killing yourself. its doing something hard and risky without killing yourself. the goal is making it through.

its the same reason somebody learns to do a flip. they dont just dive into the ground head first because they want to break their neck. they want to do a cool trick without breaking their neck.

People have survived jumping from airplanes with no parachutes, why couldn't I survive that? If I can get the horse to land in a tree, or jump off it at the last second then land in a tree, I'm sure I could survive.

The physical difference between hitting something with feet of 'give' - even if its pretty nasty like a big bush or a tree, or even water is survivable at terminal atmospheric velocity for humans - is a massive difference than landing on any sort of land.. Only snow or swamp more or less - other than bushes/trees/water is survivable. And as I'm sure anyone is aware, water is not optimal and would require an extremely precise landing to even have a chance of just walking away with a few broken bones
