P. Viridis

Hola I've not been over this side before but im keen to learn about cool plants and try my hand at a few things. So I'm starting of with P. Viridis, ive read a few threads but just wanted someone to confirm the leaves I've received are viridis and not alba? I'm pretty sure they are as the leaf looks to come quite far down the petiole



Also, I've read that I should cut the leave to reduce transpirtation, so should I cut them about half way down?

Lastly once I have potted them should I put a ziplock bag over the pot or will they be ok in like a mushroom shoebox type of container?

I can't tell you if they are alba or viridis

But I can tell you how I rooted so e awhile back.

I just buried them halfway in damp soil, with a zip lock bag over the top, leave them till they grow roots. I put them in a north facing window, for "bright shade". It took about 3 months for them to root. They sprouted from the roots


This was a awhile ago, and I gave them to friend

..also it's optional to cut the leaves in half to gain more plants from one leaf if limited on leaves..

if you choose to cut it down the vein, like in the photo.. then plant 1/3rd deep in moist soil.. then wait 3-6 months.
Humidity dome helps to get started, can be eventually removed, or leave it on, it doesn't seem to make a difference...

Look on back of leaf, there are tiny spikes along main vein of p.viridis, and smaller spikes on p.nexus, and no spikes on p.alba.

I read on nexus if I remember right that of you break the main vein a couple times on the bottom of the leaf that will be in the soil it helps. I have no idea if it’s better to break or not to break. I broke mine and they rooted.
Ellomello have you tried it? I know you have a lot of experience.

i haven't tried that, but will sometime soon.. ive also seen somewhere, the leaf planted sideways, possibly producing more shoots.

When I've done this in the past, I broke the main vein in the leaf about 20 times. Just there vein, leaving the leaf itself intact. Then burry all but about ¼" of the tip. That will allow it to obtain sunlight and each break will produce a plant. After I got about 5 or 6 plants with about 4-6 leaves each, I would dig it up and remove the plantlets while burying the leaf where I pulled it from. From one leaf I could get over 50 plants.

It takes time but very easy to do. I used plain potting soil with the addition of some peat moss and iron rich clay. I didn't measure, just a little bit of each. I also covered the bowl with a gallon ziplock bag to retain moisture.

Finally found another pic. This is about how many I would cut off the leaf each time. Hardest part is to untangle the roots in the underside when separating them out.
