If the government isn't the structure to implement green policies then who is? The energy industry that has suppressed all green technologies that it can and pollutes at every chance to increase profitability?

I don't see another option other then the government stepping in,  unfortunately it's 70 years too late.

Ecosystems are collapsing all across the world,  insect populations are being decimated, our food sources are being more and more homogenized. Eventually the camels back won't take anymore.

Luckily the powerful will have the money to sustain their lifestyle and us poor folk can deal with the fallout.

If humans can change the environment then we can also learn to survive and adapt to the new environment. If we don't, then so be it. It's naïve to assume everything can remain static to suit our needs.

You're not going to be able to convince people like myself to decrease my standard of living to save future generations with fear mongering, not gonna happen.

And that is the exact moral failing that got us in this situation in the first place.  Our entire system is based off of extracting as much profit and power possible. The system is leveraged where the powers that cause the negative effects end up profiting from situations that bubble up.  If there is too big of a situation there is a bailout.

Qman do you have children, or other family that is young? Do you think you could explain to them your position of driving this capital slave ship until the wheels fall off because people prefer the convenience of the status quo?

The arrogence of humans vs nature is unreal, a will to survive doesn't mean that the realities of survival won't be less difficult.

Yes, I have family members that are young adults, but what does that have to do with anything?

You and I use the energy resources today to survive, what are you doing to reduce your consumption?

What's going to happen if we don't stop doing what we do, can you even quantify it?  No you can't, so why get hysteria about something you can't even measure?

This is why we need people like AOC to lead the effort to get us off their products.

All the more reason we need people like AOC.

I don't want to get off their products if it lowers my standard of living, that also applies to most people in my opinion.

This is such a textbook strawman.

Why?

Because if we tried the green new deal, we would be compliant as hell.

So would everyone else.  Yet we're the only country that backed out.  Someone needs to invade us ASAP per your own logic.

You are confused.

Let me explain.

If we take the green new deal, that doesn't mean the rest of the world will, which leaves us with many other countries that will be non-compliant and the question of how to stop them before "the end of the world."

You dodged the issue yet again.

I suspect this will be AOC's strategy as well.

Nobody is confused about that.

You're opinion is that the GND is bad because others pollute too. You have conveniently over looked many of the facts regarding the pollution others create.

Everybody else agrees that we should do everything we can and take control of what we have control over. Not only because our vote only changes our government, but also because we are the cause of like 40% of the worlds pollution.

Now you can continue to harp on about China, India, the E.U., South American countries, whatever you want, but that doesn't change the fact the GND would be great for the U.S.A. and probably the world. So let's start making America a little bit greater by rolling out proper environmental policy.

The world won't take on the Green New Deal. There's nothing to be confused about. AOC is not an elected official in any other government. The Green New Deal was not pitched any where else.

This is exactly why Cocaine Mitch wants votes on the green deal.

Because everyone in the Dem party is saying something different.

That is very apparent here.

We were talking about the Paris Agreement.  The rest of the world already agreed to the Paris Agreement, but Trump backed out.

And here we go again:

Other countries are already doing FAR better than the US and Canada, and other countries have already said they're willing to do even better.

But Trump told the world we want to continue to be the worst in the world, and we have no interest in getting better.  We're the ones that need to be invaded by your own logic.

The PCA doesn't equate to immediate or 100% certain results.

You know this.

Thus if the planet was in danger, the PCA and it's paper agreements means nothing.

If the planet is at danger, non-compliant countries would be risking our lives.

Unless you can an you admit like morel Guy that:

Not sure anyone but you said "the world was ending".  It was previously posted that "Urgent changes needed to cut risk of extreme heat, drought, floods and poverty":
Quote:
The world’s leading climate scientists have warned there is only a dozen years for global warming to be kept to a maximum of 1.5C, beyond which even half a degree will significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people.

Would a solar roof reduce your standard of living?  Do you think floods or droughts would enhance your standard of living?

The only ones who's standard of living would diminish are those in big oil, whom you pretend to dislike, but actually support.

I just want the cheapest form of energy to have the best standard of living, that's all I support.

If that's solar panels, so be it.

You might possibly save in the short term without solar, but it will likely cost you (and certainly younger people) more once we see more droughts, flooding, and extreme heat.
