What would we do about non-compliant countries? If AOC is talking 10-12 years before no return for the globe, shouldn't we do something about them too?

I wouldn’t mind public projects to modernize out infrastructure. I think most of our efforts should be directed at mitigation and preparing for the consequences. It would be great to see international agreements, but I’m not sure global economic cooperation is really feasible.

For example: the CCP buys political legitimacy wth economic growth. It’s authoritarian but the average person feels like they have more opportunity then their parents/grandparents did under Mao. Now that the economy’s slowing, they have to lean more on nationalism but they still value growth.

It would take a lot of investment into other countries for them to willingly change, which isn’t popular.

They keep announcing big renewable projects/investments while also expanding their fossil fuel infrastructure. Curtailment is a huge issue too, because the coal is still cheaper. There’s definitely potential for China to vastly improve (and I hope they do), but I’m not holding my breath.

I don't see another option other then the government stepping in,  unfortunately it's 70 years too late.

Ecosystems are collapsing all across the world,  insect populations are being decimated, our food sources are being more and more homogenized. Eventually the camels back won't take anymore.

Luckily the powerful will have the money to sustain their lifestyle and us poor folk can deal with the fallout.

I’m sure the species will survive, but it’ll be a painful transition. I wouldn’t mind taking on some of the burden so my children/grandchildren live better.

China is destroying the U.S. as far as green energy, not just as far as installation but also the manufacture and development of the technology. As is Europe.

Seems as though the U.S. is the one that needs invaded. Or, we could just get our heads out of our asses, much like Green New Deal suggests.

We have been invaded by heavy subversion.  Thus this is the cause of our problems.

It's a global problem and the more militarized other countries are the worse off they are.  I don't trust leadership and one reason the US Military is so good (is they don't either).

There's a lot of free though in military schools.  It's not all brainwashing, it's about education and educating.

I really feel rationing would benefit people.  The harder things get on people, the more good can come out of peoples hearts.  Sadly it also created a lot of organized crime (rationing).  The feds had no problem cleaning up a lot of that.  Even some military units would defect in a sort of way with rations.

Leaving it up to the states (which are governments too by the way) means that absolutely no progress will happen in red states, and since climate change doesn’t acknowledge borders, it renders the progress made in other states/countries useless.

With that said, you are pretty much making the case that, if the entire world doesn't get on board, it will be bad?

What do you do with non-compliant countries? Will we invade?

The United States is the only industrialized nation who can’t even sign on to the totally impotent Paris Accords. Trump is rolling back out already lax environmental safeguards. We’re opening Alaska to oil drilling, expanding fracking. The US military is the biggest polluter in the world, by far. If anyone needs invaded in order to save the ecosystem of the planet, it’s us.

^^^THIS^^^

Canada and the US would need to be invaded.

The ecosystem collapsing and the resulting mass extinction is an easier hurdle than having undocumented farmers.

How so?  Or is that sarcasm?

Most of the rain forest is going to farm land.  It's just that way wherever people go.

Hell, they will probably laugh when we go green because they won't, but they will sell us green energy tools.

And they become the superpower.

We emit more than twice the CO2 per capita than China does, and a large part of the Chinese CO2 emission is for products bought by Americans. So they are doing better than us, especially considering our manufacturing sector is less than theirs.

So?

The world is ending.

Is that your excuse?

We have to go to war with them and make them stop before they destroy the planet.

Isn't that the logic? Or should we just trust that they will go green within 10 years?

I like how people are painting China’s investment in renewable energy as a drop in the pond and ineffectual.

Meanwhile those same people are fearmongering about the Green New Deal here, which also a massive shortcoming compared to what’s needed.
