First Time Grow * 1

Hi all,
New member and first time grow. I am starting with a few GT cakes and have some GT spawn incubating.  I let them sit for a week after they were 100% then birthed, dunked and rolled my first three cakes a week ago and have been misting and fanning about 4x day in a SGFC.  I keep them in my garage here in Florida and keep the temps between 60-80 in the FC. Humidity stays high here :smile:.  I keep a 13w 6500k CFL on top of the chamber on 12/12 cycle.

So far no signs of knots - and the appearance has not changed much. I probably need to be patient.

One thing I wonder is if I am misting too much. The cakes don't look moist - I try to get them to glisten a bit before I fan. I wonder if the misting makes it hard for knots to form.

Temps are a bit on the low side so that will likely slow things a bit. I need to be stealth so my alternative is to bring them inside but I would not be able to light them as well. I am planning on bringing them inside to see if a bit warmer temps help.

I have a question. I have a bag of grain that was about 50% colonized. I broke it up and used it to make an LC a week ago (only 12 cc injected).  LC looks good but grain bag seems to have stalled. Just be patient for it to recover?

In the future, wait until stuff is fully colonized before you consider using anything out of it. Generally wait until grains are fully colonized before you open them.

Cakes bother me.  It just seems inefficient.  But they are forgiving and a good way to start learning.

I have three grain bags colonizing for bulk in a few weeks. I am planning on grating these cakes after the first flush.

Do they look dry?  That is something I don’t have a handle on yet to tell if they are dry. They feel a little moist but not saturated. I spray them directly with about 5-10 sprays about 3-4x a day. I would like to spray more if I could tell when they are too wet.  Just don’t have enough experience yet on the moisture level signs.

They seemed dry but depending on your misting procedure you should be alright. Maybe photos just don't do justice :mushroom2:

How do my dub tubs look? 



The one on the left is 3 half pint BRF spawned at 1:2 12 days ago. The other two are 1lb bag rye spawned at 1:3 11 days ago. The BRF is not 100% colonized to the substrate but it has not changed much in the last 6 days.

I just put them in fruiting conditions.
