Major Pinning in Jars

6 of my 23 jars are pinning like crazy.  And the other ones are 90-100% colonized.

What should I do?  Make a small tub with the 6 that are ready?  Or can I wait a week until the others catch up?  Need some advice.

In vitro pinning is usually a sign of contaminates, especially when its only partially colonized.

I would take them out, and wash off any uncolonized parts.

Also, its been know for awhile that light is beneficial at all stages of development

Are the ones that are pinning 100 % colonized? And yes light is beneficial during all stages of growth even during the colonization period!

The ones that are pinning are 100% colonized.  They just took off faster than the others.  This is from a home made MS syringe created from a mushroom found in the field.

I don’t think they are contaminated...  they are just way ahead of the others.

I’ve had them in partial light, but all have been subjected to the same amount.

But if I birth those...  then I only have 3 pints to mix with bulk...  and I was planning on a bigger grow...  that’s my issue...

I need to Birth and spawn the ones pinning though, right?

The verm you see in there is the dry verm layer.  These puppies are healthy.

Hmm, you could potentially wait it out as long as those pins dont get to big, or you could fruit directly from the jar as well mabye.

Light is beneficial during all periods of growth, ask RR, pasty, bod, caps, mushboy, any of the vets will all say the same thing, or use the search bar and look for yourself versus just blatantly disregarding proven things and calling them "hooey"

You need to spawn at 100%, those are way past due with 3" shrooms grown already. I would birth em as cakes. Spawn em as they are ready and do shoeboxes, one jar each.

I’ve done it both ways, and both seem fine ( light vs. no light).  These have had light.  The previous batch did not bc it was too cold so I had them in an incubator.

But I need to make a small grow with these like ASAP.  That’s my question...  I can’t wait 3-5 more days for the rest to fully colonize?

Just saw your post...  these are half pint jars...  that would be a lot of bulk if I did one jar per shoebox...

Can you clarify?

If the rest are gonna be done on time together then do what you want with em when they are ready. As fpr the ones seen above, do an FC of your choice. If you do a lot of bulk you should get a lot of mushrooms...

I ended up birthing those jars, and took off the mushrooms that were growing in vitro and am drying them.

I don’t know what kind of calculator y’all use to figure out tub dimensions and spawn to bulk ratios to get a 3 inch depth...  but my calculations were way off when figuring out tub dimensions on these 6 half pint jars.

Grating those up gave me a ton of spawn, and was way overkill for the small tub that I had planned to use.  Ended up spawning to 2 tubs with a 1 to 3 ratio or somewhere around there.  I really am not sure.  But I would love to know what y’all use to calculate tub size when going from multiple jars to bulk.

I calculated and I had 48 oz of spawn...  so figured I needed 96 oz of bulk for the mix.  It was waaaaay too much.  Almost like the ground up cakes had tripled in size when grated.

So these 2 tubs look good and I’m happy with the ratios.  Field capacity was a bit wet so I put 2.5 cups of verm and that seemed to make it good.

20-25% spawn to sub is a good rule of thumb. if you put a little extra spawn all it means is that it'll colonize faster. u good
