Have you ever froze actives and they worked months later? The batch I had was from the same field, I know one can vary in potency a great bit from  the one next to it, but this field was very good, lol.

Tea yes. I have "pasty plates" of frozen tea in my freezer right now

So boiled and frozen.

But not a fresh active mushroom?

No reason to ever put any kind of fresh mushroom in a freezer. So no because freezing fresh mushrooms is dumb. But it wouldn't hurt the actives and I would put money on that.

Toss some frozen shrooms right into boiling water make tea report back. I would feel confident that would work just fine

Freezing doesn’t ruin them. Defrosting them does.

I have video proof. The video is time lapse over about 20 minutes

They turn black, in assuming there are enzymes that auto-oxidize the actives. The Black color occurs throughout the entire mushroom not just the surface. It’s possible that only the psilocin is oxidizing but I wouldn’t want to eat a defrosted mushroom. This doesn’t happen to extractions BTW.

Solutions will go bad in hours unless you protect them from light.

There a study posted somewhere in the ovoid threads where researchers got a solution to last seven days but only if they were kept in dark bottles in a refrigerator

OK, then do an experiment the next time you grow and put a fresh doses worth in the freezer and let them stay in there for at least, let's say 2 months, then thaw then consume, they will be complete mushiness by the time they thaw for one thing. I ate them frozen with bites like a Popsicle, lol. If anyone has some fresh they would like to experiment with please do a report! Make teas with the frozen mass, or completely thaw and make tea and/or consume. I'd lay money on them being ruined from my experience.

If you let them thaw out that way it's your own fault. They should go directly to cooking.

Whos daft enough to let them thaw first. The freezing broke all the cell walls they'll turn to mushy shit. Should be obvious to anyone that got past highschool

LOL, I know, but I did eat the frozen ones like a popsicle, still didn't work. I do not think the frozen ones placed in boiling water like a tea will either. I Betcha!

How do you consume a frozen mushroom without letting it defrost. Your body is 98°. The oxidation happens instantly the moment it’s not frozen.

Did further experiments with those frozen mushrooms. They turn a water solution dark blue. Addition  of ascorbic acid turns the solution orange. I thought this might be due to the anti oxidant properties of ascorbic acids, but any acid behaves this way so it is just the acid that is doing this. It behaves like a ph indicator.

Throw them right into boiling water.

Also howd you come to figure out oxidation is instantaneous

The blackening moves across the surface from thinner areas that are defrosted. There’s a border where the blackening stops that corresponds to the interface between parts of the mushroom that are still frozen and the parts that have drefosted

It’s much easier to see in this video. Same time lapse over aboit 20 minutes

What i found interesting is there is no intermediate bluing, like you would get from rubbing it. Eventually bluing on ovoids turns black but that usually takes hours. Obviously there is more going on here than just exposure to the air. Those mushrooms are black even on the inside and it happens within seconds of them being no longer frozen.

Because when you place these mushrooms in water the water turns blue I think the black color is the same as the bluing you see but just much more of it occurring at more than just the surface.

For those that don’t want to watch the video, here’s four evenly spaced screen caps. This occurs over a period of about 20 minutes. Frozen ovoids laid out on a table and allowed to defrost.

I’ve actually used this property of ovoids to find new mulch patches that will produce. Usually a mulch patch will produce a few random ovoids during the winter. They freeze. Turn black and dry out. In the early spring I just go around looking at mulch and if I find a black dried out mushroom I know the spot will fruit when the weather is right.

What’s interesting is something similar happens to the mycelium without actually killing t

The lemon juice is critical because the citric acid reacts with the psilocin to produce the salt psilocin citrate, which is water soluble. Psilocin is normally not water soluble.

I’ve heard people suggest that the citric acid dephosphorylates the psilocybin but I’m skeptical. I don’t think citric acid is strong enough to cleave that molecule.

Where did you hear that psilocyn isn't water soluble? I cant seem to find any info on its solubility

Psilocin is listed as slightly soluble. When you are doing extractions slightly soluble is not very efficient. It takes a long time to get slightly soluble substances into solution.

In acid solutions psilocin is freely soluble. (Solubility depends somewhat on the acid used. Chlorides and acetates are almost universally water soluble. Vinegar or hydrochloric acid would be the best choice for solubility reasons but it would taste horrible)
