I wanted to post a quick update and get some feedback on the current conditions. It's been 3 days since spawn and the boxes have been sitting in a shelf with 12/12 of 6500k light and a daytime temp of 77 - no doubt with some help from the light. Just now was the first time I've peeked inside to see what the progress looks like. I also have not misted.

Hard to say if it looks normal, but I can see the little tentacles reaching out. Is the fuziness typical on the top portion around the exposed grains?

25 days to go...

That's mycelium and it's normal; dial your feild capacity back a little drier, this is super wet and may stall... I usually only mist once before first flush harvest ... looks like a shoebox, if so,  keep the lid snapped until pinset development, pop the tabs so they rest on the lip of the box... once the fruit reach the top, dubtub it... light isn't necessary for growth, but directional queuing, no need for anything putting off significant heat... I use a 26w 6500k LED bulb in the overhead fixture for my entire closet currently... just installed shelving so will be lighting each shelf before it's over, but they do fine... I'd suggest one bulb to 2 boxes if they're in dome fixtures

Would it be advisable to leave the lid cracked overnight? I'm not running a fan in there.

Probably wouldn't hurt as wet as it is, but I wouldn't go overboard... small crack goes a long way... I suggest turning the lid slightly so that you have a gap in opposite corners, small enough that you can't put a fingertip in it... this will help evaporation be more even across the surface

Thanks Cap! I cracked them open as suggested. This is the current state - hard for me to say if it's better but there is certainly more development popping up through the casing layer. This is still running no fan in the space.

Happy weekend to everyone! I was hoping to get a surface read on my boxes. We had to run the heat for a few days so I'm not sure if there is any need for misting. I can see more of the vermiculite poking out so I was curious if this was the  result of the coir at the top level shrinking and/or drying. The camera struggles to focus on all the little details but hopefully it is clear.

To date there has been no misting, and the tops have remained closed per the above guidance - outside of the pics from this morning.

Looking good to me, are there fine water droplets on the surface?

Two of the three boxes have visible droplets, the other is not as easy to tell. I tried shooting these with a macro lens but the focus is a bit of a struggle with all the tiny detail. The second picture is the one that is difficult to determine if there are droplets or not. I'm not sure if I should give it a mist for good measure to just let it be.

Regarding the size of the droplets, are they a function of the humidity level, or is it driven by the surface area of the substrate?

I'd leave it and see if it'll develop surface moisture on it's own... thugs got plenty of time, may even squeeze out 2 flushes if you just let it do it's thing

Looks like I've got some pins popping out of box #3- just 3 tiny ones as of this morning, but it's encouraging. What's interesting is that this is the slowest colonizing of the batch and was spawned with the jar that was not shaken - not sure if there is any correlation. At what point do I crack the lid on this one?

This is a shot of box #2, which looks pretty good

Box #1 has an odd little bubble that's of concern - it looks like a single droplet that has this tint to it - is this the start of something that should concern me? There is lots of moisture in the boxes, with condensation all over the sides and even on the lid. Is this too much moisture?

As always, thank you for the feedback!

Not sure what that is, it's not just a mutant blob? I pay no mind to condensation, as it only indicated a higher temp inside than outside the tub and will occur even with a dry substrate

Just got home and found a few more pins popping up on that box, still no activity on the others.

What's the prime time to crack the lid on the one with pins? I tried searching the shoebox thread but that thing is deep - hard to sort through some of the details.

I've got another round of 10 WBS jars with 2 different varieties that I shook yesterday morning and those are filling in nicely as well, so I'm gonna keep this train running!

I wait until they really start going... depends on surface moisture too though... if it's starting to pool, I'll pop it, but if it's on point, I leave it snapped

I feel like I've got a little experiment here in variation, but I guess that's the risk of starting with an MS syringe. The learning process is really cool with this.

Box #3 is still pinning - is it time to crack the lid on this one?

Box #2 has it's first tiny pin, so I'm not so concerned about the status but I am surprised about the number of days between the developments (all spawned 1/5).

Box #1 has more of that yellow wetness on the side, and has it's first pin developing...as a side pin right at the edge of that area. The surface is glistening and seems OK, but I'm not sure what the issue is. I know surface conditions dictate side pins but the surface does not appear to be dry. Are there other factors other than moisture that drive that?

It depends on surface conditions for me...  if it's on point and there's no fuzzy feet, leave them be... if it's starting to pool water or you've got the fuzzies real bad, unsnap it... don't see signs of inadequate FAE,  and from the photo,  surface appears a little dry... I'd let it ride

I'm guessing this is the fuzzy feet you're referring to, so I flipped the lid on this one. I hit each of the other 2 boxes with a mist last night and they are pinning now - probably more coincidence than correlation but I had never misted yet so I figured I would see what it looks like.

I'm guessing these guys are looking normal at this stage unless I hear otherwise. Much thanks for all the feedback - helps with the noob anxiety!
