I went into it without any previous knowledge or expectations and know no other reference than the movie.  Do you think it sucked because they only had 90ish minutes where the show has much more time or did they just plain fuck it up?

Part of it I’m sure has to with them them squishing 3 books into a single movie but my majority of the problem with the movie was the fact Carrey had absolutely no idea how to play Olaf. Emily Browing playing Violet was cool though.

I wonder if he read the books:confused2:

On the dvd I have the special features has a good amount of time where he riffs different lines as different characters so even if he hadn’t read them he had enough eyes on him someone should have helped steer.

I can’t bitch though, nobody with a camera (just about) is going to out compete my imagination so the movie folk already have one strike but I still get a kick.  That’s dope the series clarifies everything..

From my understanding Danial Handler (Lemoney Snicket), wasn’t very involved with the movie. I think nickelodeon kinda just got the rights and ran with it so they turned Olaf into an obnoxious clown because they thought that’s what the kids wanted.

I got Hulu on black Friday for 12 month for $1 each month.

Hulu has a lot of stuff Netflix used to have.

I watched ā€˜The Autopsy of Jane Doe’ last night.  It was good.  It had a two pronged horror approach: there was a nice suspenseful/creepy supernatural element, and then the general gross-out factor of basically being a whole long autopsy sequence.  Decent acting from the two leads, plus Roose Bolton.  A good late-night-by-yourself horror watch.

Psi there’s a documentary about the real GLOW on Netflix.  It’s called GLOW: the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling.  Pretty interesting to see how much of the story was taken from real life.  I mean, a lot of the drama is screen writing, but the general shape of the plot and plenty of specifics really happened.  I like the show, too.

I like the new Mystery Science Theater, it's good late night stoner television. Castlevania is fucking amazing, can't wait for more of that.

I keep forgetting about this show! ahhhh I need to watch it asap!

Do ettttt!

The Netflix version of A Series of Unfortunate Events is much better (imo) than the movie.  The movie’s ok, but I sometimes get tired halfway through watching Jim Carrey chew up the scenery.  Neil Patrick Harris plays Olaf perfectly, and Patrick Warburton (Putty on Seinfeld) does the best narration as Lemony Snicket.  The show has a lot of funny writing, and the aesthetic is amazing.  Really great art direction.  You might still like the movie more, but the show is definitely worth watching.  Tons of great moments.

The Jim Carrey movie is absolutely abysmal, easily one of my top 3 least favorite movies if not my least favorite.
I remember being so excited I couldn’t sleep for months after hearing they were making the books into a movie,
I also remember leaving the movie theater in tears because of how bad the movie was, to this day I still despise Jim Carrey.
Those books were an essential part of my childhood, there’s a reason 667 Dark Ave has been my location here for like 5 years.

That said, I really can’t say enough good about the Netflix adaptation. They nailed it.
The mood, the humor, the casting, they got it all right.
And if you ask me, they even went above and beyond.
They followed the books to the letter every time they should have and made changes and additions when they should have.
A lot of the additions they added like Jacquelyn and Larry are so well done not even the biggest ASoUE purest could have anything to complain about.
They keep pieces moving in the background that are refrenced in the books that you never really get to see.
They also fill the show to the gills with random references only hardcore ASoUE could pick up on such as the Last Dutchess of Winnipeg or code phrases such as ā€œwhy hello young lady have you been good to your mother?ā€ To which the correct response is, ā€œThe question is, has my mother been good to me.ā€
And while making the hardcore fans happy they still do a great job making it fun and approachable for those who have never even seen it before.

Jim Carreys best performance on Netflix is in Bad Batch.

Superb. I was highly skeptical at first. But it didn't disappoint. When you get to talking about Netflix it is pretty entertaining.
