I think mine died this winter for this very reason, kept it too dry I guess. Haven't given up yet but starting to lose hope.

Super hardy plant. I had one for 4 years that survived dipping below freezing several times along with lots of abuse and didn’t seem to even care. I eventually gave it to a friend who killed it by not watering it.

Did yours flower and produce seed? Do you know if one plant is enough to make viable seeds?

This one does well with a deep watering every second day. It stands up to the desert heat really well and it grows fast.

Wow! What a recovery! They get so huge, i'm debating bringing some life into this world but im currently living in Tijuana. They dont really appriciate dirt on their property and everything is cemented. I don't want to grow in a pot because I hear it's not the best thing to do. I may just have to wait until I find a more permanent residence. Its so easy to move in Tijuana because the housing is so cheap. Any how glad too see yours has made a solid recovery. I love these little seeds. The Euphoria. Its Pure Love

Thanks bro.  It is the fastest growing plant I have.  I really hope it blooms this year.  Best luck with finding ground to grow in.

So in 2018 my HBWR recovered and grew large again.  But it did not flower.  Then 2 nights ago the temperature dropped to 29F again.  It was the first night of freezing temps this winter.  This is the result:

I can say with confidence that HBWR can survive low temperature above the freezing point, but any dip into freezing temperatures will kill the vegetative growth above the soil line.  Essentially this plant is fully hardy into zone 10B.

Here in my zone 9B climate the plant will regrow from the roots after being killed back.  It does this in the spring.  Unfortunately I will probably never see flowers or seeds on this plant unless we experience an unusually mild winter with no freezing temps at all.
