Hawaiian Baby Woodrose (Argyreia Nervosa)
    #3361893 - 11/14/04 11:19 PM (12 years, 25 days ago)

I have a couple of Hawaiian Baby Woodrose (Argyreia Nervosa) plants.
I started them from seed 5 years ago. They have never flowered.
No matter what I try I can't get them to flower.
I've tried short days. I've also tried long days under Halide lamps.
I've also grown them outside in part sun/shade. I've tried full sun. I've tried full shade. They can't be day neutral.
I've also been very careful on the amount of Nitrogen in my fertilizer mix. Because I know to much Nitrogen can cause them to stay vegetative.
I know some plants require chilling degree days(like san pedro) before they will flower.
I wouldn't think that Hawaiian Baby Woodrose (Argyreia Nervosa) would require chilling degree days being a tropical.
Has anybody flowered one of these plants?
Does anybody know what triggers the flowering cycle?

Welcome to the shroomery! :mushroom2:

If you read a few thread down there's this thread. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/3307972/an/0/page/0

My best guess would be to grow it in a natural outdoor enviornment ie greenhouse if not in a warm zone. Then cut back the roots and give it a trimming late winter-early spring.

Thanks for the help.
I live in zone 7 were it can get down to 0 degrees F. Which is to cold for them. I don't have a green house.
I have tried different shearing techniques on them. Some I left 15 feet long and unsheared. Others I sheared once a year, when I had to bring them inside to over winter them.
I have never tried to cut the roots. How could that would help?

Its in the thread, its an old bonzai trick to force flower. Just trim off the outer 1" of roots and repot.

Thanks for the advice. I did see the other thread, I just didn't want to hijack somebodys thread.
Does anybody what time of the year the flower in the wild?
I know they will not flower until there second year, but mine are 5 years old now.
I still think flowering must be photoperiod related. Most species flowering is photoperiod related, however there are a few that are day neutral.
I live in the country so there are not any street lights to interupt the phototperiod.
