I had state-subsidized insurance for the indigent until obama ruined it. They shut it down when obamacare started.

Medi-cal expansion under the ACA benefitted me greatly at that time.  Prior to that, i had to doctor my own numerous injuries such as torch burns, impact injuries from various tools, etc.  Of course, i could have gone to a county hospital, but the one time i really needed to, they waited me out. 9hrs in with 9 more to go, i figured that if internal bleeding hadn't killed us yet, it probably wouldn't.  Under medi-cal, by contrast, i walked into a hospital with a busted hand, and out with a cast in an hour or so.  It really made me feel like society gave one tiny fuck about me for the first time in my adult life.

It's  too bad so many states with population that really needed it refused the federal expansion money.

It was essentially impossible to get health insurance in the US if you worked for yourself until Obamacare. People that complain that Obamacare ruined the insurance market are just ignorant. There was no market.

Money is what it comes down to. I'm doing alot better now. but the job I was at before I was barley making it by. And even with health insurance there's still a copay and then charge for medicine and stuff. For someone who was only making 1500 to maybe 2000 a month is very hard to do and rather not pay insurance. And that's the cheap insurance. It be cool if it was included in the taxes or something.  However, my current job, since I'm living on the boat, will send me to a doctor if necessary and there's also a medic and clinic on board that takes care of most basic illnesses and problems. At the moment I dont really need it. I'm not terminally ill and am in pretty good health. I can understand some people probably need it. I don't see why it can't be optional

So when you develop a terminal illness or break a bone then you'll sign up for health insurance? That's not how it works. I def agree with you and see where you're coming from, I'm in the same boat, but I can't afford the co pays and shit and the insurance is hundreds of dollars. If I could get it for $40 and at least get some basic shit done I'd take it. I also make less than you do. It's all relative I'll give you.

One of the deals with Obamacare was the mandate in return for covering pre-existing conditions. If you don’t mandate coverage then how do you cover pre existing conditions? People can just buy insurance when they get sick and the whole idea of insurance falls apart.

insurance is a scam

this kid got a brain tumor
they spent millions and millions of dollars to keep him alive but in a state of retardation
it came back and he died obviuosly

that's what you pay for when you pay insurance
other peoples insanely rare illness and doctors fuck ups get spread around to everyone
to the point where salt water cost 300 dollars
and a bed to squeez out a baby cost 30k

so you know how to be a life guard and you can do some sewing, big deal...

I feel bad for posting this topic sorta. Didnt really mean for it to get into a debate. My main thing was the taxes. I'm just barley starting to reach a point where I might actually be to afford better things. Ive pretty much have been poor most my life. I get what you guys are saying about building a better health care system and people freelpading and stuff. Touchy subject.  That's why I don't like getting into politics
